Larocca restaurant shuts.

Another restaurant down. | 09.07.2009 11:48 | Animal Liberation

Larocca a restaurant unrepenting in serving foie gras has shut it's doors.

Larocca was an Italian restaurant set out in the Clarence dock area of Leeds. Since it's inception it had a policy of serving foie gras in it's restaurant. Despite questions being asked on many occasions this restaurant declined to justify the serving of foie gras. Content to believe that the fact they were able to do so was enough justification.

There are probably many reasons why this £2.5 million restaurant went bust, one would doubtless be the current economic climate, the increased cost of importing ingredients banned from production in the UK, and also an increased boycott of restaurants serving foie gras.

But let us be quite clear, the unacceptable use of products borne from brutalising ducks and geese will always be fought.

We will find out where you are.

Don't kid yourselves

There will be a million and one reasons why a business like this went tits up. Number one in the Stating The Bleeding Obvious chart with a bullet is the worldwide recession - heard of it, have you? The idea that the boycotting of any restaurant by a few AR nutters would lead to its bankrupcy is about as laughable as the idea of you or anyone else believing it. FFS.

Scope of boycott

The vast majority of people in the UK are against the cruelty involved in Foie Gras. Many many people boycott foie gras serving restaurents. I do, and I'm not an AR nutter.

Also the vast majority of people in this country boycott animal circuses thats why so many are struggling.

I would be interested.

If anyone has the statistic to support the claim that the vast majority are against it. I also find it interesting that indy is now heavily moderated to the extent that most who speak out against AR propaganda has their post deleted. So much for freedoms and balance!

I am of the opinion that standing outside insulting and screaming at people is what this country is all about.

Inspiring News

The closing of Larocca means that there are no more restaurants, catering firms or hotels in Leeds who serve foie gras.

To look past over the last 2 years, local campaigners (both legal and otherwise) have had a relentless campaign against countless firms who served the dish - consisting of regular demonstrations, national support and complaint, public boycott and back-up from unknown ALF activists.

It is not just a case of Larocca closing down, but an amazing victory which should inspire other local activist groups and show what can be achieved; the fact that the UK's 4th biggest city and one of the biggest growing hot-spots for the catering industry no longer has a single business serving up foie gras.

One meal out of many?

Why not also target places selling other animal products- cheese, ham, beef steaks, milkshakes? Why does foie gras get all the attention?
