Planning application for open cast coal mine in Leicester is submitted

After months of waiting Minorca Open Cast Protest Group have found out that a planning application has been submitted to open cast for coal in Leicester.

So, it's not Nottinghamshire but neither was Bodge House. UK Coal have lodged plans with Leicestershire County Council to mine for 1.25 million tonnes of coal and 250,000 tonnes of clay in a mine that will be one and a half miles long and half a mile wide and is in the middle of the National Forest between the villages of Measham and Swepstone and plan to mine for 4.5 years for 12 hours per day Monday to Friday and for 6 hours on Saturday. A protest meeting is being organised for Wednesday August the 5th at St Laurence Church Hall, High Street, Measham at 7.30pm. A protest group has been set up for a while, mainly consisting of local villagers.
