For me that is Latuffs 'Guernica'

04.07.2009 22:40

I found Latuffs cartoons so effective that I tried to slave over drawing my own cartoons. Some of the multitude Latuff draws though are so good they are discouraging for other wannabe cartoonists.

You don't need to agree with Latuffs politics to acknowledge his art. You don''t have to have an opinion about the recent events in Iran to appreciate this image. I'll be printing this one out and posting it up on a few walls, rather than sitting trying to better it.

And even as we speak ...

the American Stuka are circling over Teheran ..

Has there ever been a Latuff cartoon which does not feature either a wicked Uncle Sam or a triumphant Israeli?

If that's a 'Guernica' then I'm Otto von Bismarck.

Aw come on guys, thats fairly good for a Latuff. At least there's some recognition that the situation is potentially complicated.

Love the way he's basicaly hedging his bets here; still the grim Mullah is at least some form of progress from the usual "evil bloodstained imperialists and of course ZIONIST!!!!1" schtick of his.

Poker vs Chess

10.07.2009 14:39

'While the US has been playing poker in the region, Iran has been playing chess.'
- Nadim Shehadi, ‘Iran, its Neighbours and the Regional Crises’, Chatham House, 2006

“Western policy toward the Middle East shows a complete lack of imagination. There is a world of opportunities between neglect and military action which has yet to be fully explored”
-Ali Ansari, ‘Iran, its Neighbours and the Regional Crises’, Chatham House, 2006

So I guess this latest US strategy of destabilisation is the US learning to play chess.

Some socialist huh?

Thanks for letting us know what you lot really think though - ordinary people are just pawns to you, with no rights or even individual identities. It is a horrifyingly cynical and simplistic worldview you espouse here, and ironically it is a paid mouthpiece of the regime in Tehran that is foremost in pushing it.

Disgusting.
