Working Class Activists and Their Children Desert the Camp For Climate Action

The Children's Revolution | 03.07.2009 03:33 | Climate Chaos | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | World

Many of the ordinary working class environmental activists who have been involved with helping create the Camp for Climate Action have now given up on what they see as a fascist middle class hierarchy and they are pursuing their own projects again instead.
The children of some of the road protesters of the 1990s have been leading the revolt against the climate campers because their parents have always had a policy of supporting their kids against anyone who treats them badly.

After the day of mass action at the Camp for Climate Action at Kingsnorth in August 2008 some of the Children of the Eco-Warriors held a meeting of their own at which they complained bitterly about the way that they had been bullied by people they didn't even know.
Some of the kids' bloc had been injured in clashes with the riot police and they said that they felt as if they had been used as human shields and made to look like Hitler Youth on the television.

As a result they decided they would not be returning to future camps for climate action but would be organising their own Children's Revolutions at various different locations of their own choosing.
The kids had been led to believe that they would be having a separate kids' bloc march to the local village of Hoo with local activists and their children just like they did at the Heathrow Camp for Climate Action.

But at the last minute on the day of mass action the kids were ordered to move away from the front of the main march and they ended up being squashed in amongst everybody else and in the end they all got separated from each other.
There was no separate kids' march because the decision not to allow this had already been made behind their backs at a meeting at Oxford and the Orange group dictated that the kids had no choice but to join in with them.

Neither the mothers nor their children were consulted about this and nor were they informed of the decision and there was a lot of resentment especially after the way that some of them got attacked and pepper sprayed and tear gased and baton charged at the so-called “child-friendly” climate camp.
All the prior publicity and flyers published by the Camp for Climate Action emphasised that the camp would be a safe place for parents to bring their children to but the reality was entirely different and there was no effort made to ensure the safety and protection of the kids.

At a recent anarchist conference in London a group of radical feminists protested about the way that the Camp for Climate Action had portrayed women activists as being just like the young beautiful sexy stereotypes that the capitalist news media adores so much.
Accusations that the climate camp media group was fascist were made and it was said that many people believed the media team had assumed an authoritarian role and had been trying to dictate and control policy and actions without any consultation with the working class activists.

At the Camp for Climate Action at Heathrow the media group encouraged the obscene abuse of the mainstream media journalists because of a false story about hoax bombs published in the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard.
Instead of trying to resolve these differences and correct the story in other newspapers the media group succeeded in alienating all the journalists including the environment editor of the Guardian John Vidal and the BBC.

Danny Dink asked the media group for permission to talk to the BBC's Ben Ando to discuss organizing television protection for the kids' bloc march but they refused on the grounds that journalists were not allowed on the site where we were all squatting together.
Subsequently Rinky Dink stayed away from the Kingsnorth Camp for Climate Action and the climate camp at Bishopsgate during the G20 protests in the City of London in April 2009 but they were outside the Bank of England.

Some of the mothers at Heathrow were reluctant to take their children on the kids' bloc march because they had been relying on the full support of the news media to help protect their children and they did not want a repeat of the attacks by the police which had occurred at the Drax climate camp.
Within the network of squatted social centres in London there is a growing resentment against the attitude and behaviour of the climate camp hierarchy which is leading to a very serious split in the movement which may be very difficult to resolve.

The suspicion that the Children of the Eco-Warriors had been used as human shields and paraded like Hitler Youth were reinforced in an interview with a member of the media group published on Indymedia.
Astonishingly the attitude of the Camp for Climate Action media group was reported as being in FAVOUR of the violence by the police against the protesters during actions at the climate camps.
This confession has helped lead to the uneasy suspicion that there are people within the Camp for Climate Action hierarchy who have deliberately made sure that vulnerable people like the mothers and their children have been placed in harm's way so that they would get attacked and injured by the police.

The worst atrocity that occurred at the Kingsnorth climate camp was not the tear gasing pepper spraying and baton charging of women and children by the riot police at the back gate on the first day of the camp but the terrible accident that occurred when a baby got kicked out of her buggy by a stampeding riot police horse on the day of mass action.
The baby's mother was left traumatised and crying in shock by the side of the road and this was all witnessed by Aaron who is one of the most reliable people within the movement and who was a leading light during the 1990s road protests and whose word can always be taken as gospel.

According to the minutes of a meeting of the Camp for Climate Action at Hebden Bridge it was agreed that there would always be violent confrontations with the police because the cops supported the “business as usual” policies of the government and the corporations.
This sounded suspiciously as if the climate campers were not only accepting the fact that the police would get violent with protesters in the future but that they actually welcomed these confrontations and had no intention of trying to mediate or liaise in any way to put a stop to all the violence.

The following are a few direct quotes from an article entitled “The Camp for Climate Action and the media – Part 1” posted by Lewis on Indymedia UK on 21 April 2009:
“The first in a series of articles on the Climate Camp's media strategy.
“We will be exploring issues of working with the mass media, non-hierarchical communication and the use of independent media.
“This article is an interview with Isabel and Steven from the Camp's media team.

“S: People get into it because they saw it on TV.
“It's about broadening the movement, it's about reaching out to new people, it has to be.
“And it's about trying to influence public debate and public opinion and attempting to get some more radical messages out there.
“In terms of also opposing specific bad things it's very powerful to play the media battle and embarrass the government and the corporations.
“I: I don’t see the Climate Camp as a radical lobby group but it also plays that part.
“I think it would be very naïve to try to pretend that’s not the case.
“But it is also about being prepared when they come, because they’re going to come.
“S: It’s also part of our defense to have images on ITV of people being beaten by police”.

This statement coming directly from the climate camp media team can hardly be more damning.
It is hard to interpret it in any other way than that it is an admission that the Camp for Climate Action deliberately sets out to create the situations for the violence against the protesters who come to the camps and this includes the mothers and their children who are now objecting to being used as human shields.
Steven from the Camp's media team is quoted as saying that it is very powerful to “play the media battle” as if he sees himself as some kind of a general in a war sending the troops out to the front lines to get injured or even possibly killed by the police.

Steven appears to have been speaking on behalf of unnamed people when he said it was part of THEIR defence to have images on ITV of people being beaten by the police.
His said the media team's purpose in encouraging this violence was to embarrass the government and the corporations, but he said absolutely nothing at all about the injuries received by the mothers and their children and all the rest of us who have been viciously assaulted by the riot police at the climate camps.

If the Camp for Climate Action media group does indeed deliberately use our children as human shields and parade them like Hitler Youth to try to embarrass the politicians and the corporations then their strategy is about to backfire very badly on them.
The Earth Aid Environmental Campaign acting on behalf of the Children of the Eco-Warriors is instructing our lawyers to take private criminal prosecutions against the Camp for Climate Action.

Our intention is to continue to do everything we possibly can to try to protect our friends and family who are completely opposed to being caught up in any further violence against them and their children at future camps for climate action.
The crimes that the Camp for Climate Action appear to have committed are reckless endangerment and negligence, failure in their Duty of Care and deliberate complicity with the violent assaults by the police.
The reasons for this admitted policy of setting gullible protesters and their children up to be baton charged by the riot police are hard to fathom but they could be the result of what is known as the “tyranny of the committed” or they could be caused by agents provocateurs deliberately causing trouble within the environmental movement.

But whoever is responsible the fact is that causing children at these protests to get injured by the police and then blaming the government and the big corporations is diabolical and probably insane as well.
The evidence that this is indeed happening is overwhelming and certainly good enough o justify our private criminal prosecutions against the organisers of the Camp for Climate Action.
A baby or a young child could very easily get seriously injured or even killed by the police at one of the climate camps and one baby had a narrow escape at Kingsnorth where a kick in the head from the stampeding riot police horse would probably have killed her outright.

The climate camps are essentially not much more than part-time publicity stunts supporting the government policies of building new nuclear power stations as George Monbiot explained to the BBC at Kingsnorth.
For a lot of the road protesters of the 1990s who campaign full-time for the environment these short-term stunts for the television and the nuclear industry are not worth taking the risk of losing even one of our precious children for.

Some activists have said privately that there is a suspicion that was broadcast by the BBC that all the environmental groups in Britain have been infiltrated by undercover police and that there may be government involvement now in helping direct the policies and actions at the climate camps.
This is exactly what happened during the road protests in the 1990s and also to the animal rights movement where agents provocateurs deliberately set traps for unwary protesters to fall into and these allegations have also been published and broadcast by the mainstream news media.

The admission from the climate camp media team that it was part of their overall strategy to get images of police violence against protesters on the television looks very much as if this is the official policy of the Camp for Climate Action.
If this is indeed the case then it does make sense to take urgent private criminal prosecutions against the climate camp hierarchy which hides behind anonymity - if only to protect our children and other peoples' children in the future.
It would also make sense to try to disband the Camp for Climate Action as soon as possible in the same way that Reclaim the Streets and various other groups had to close down and move on when the time came to retreat back to our grassroots and regroup under different banners.

The Earth Aid Environmental Campaign has been right in the middle of many of the disputes at the climate camps because we represent our friends and family most of whom are the working class activists who were jokingly referred to as “eco-warriors” by the news media in the 1990s and we help with a lot of the legal and media work for them and for their children.
The media calls our kids the “Children of the Eco-warriors” and they are the ones that you sometimes see on TV leading the kids' bloc marches with their famous banner “The Kids Are Revolting!” and their parents have had no choice but to go along with the joke because they always let their children make their own decisions about what they want to do.

Sarah who is the mother of a seven-year-old daughter was at the first Children's Revolution at the G8 protests in July 2005 when her little girl was only two years old.
She said that many of the anarchists at the recent conference in London were shocked by the ferocity of the attack on the Camp for Climate Action by radical feminists many of whom are mothers who had been taking their children with them to the climate camps.

Since the Kingsnorth Camp for Climate Action a lot of the parents of the children have decided to pursue an ambitious programme of Children's Revolution events which will finally be completely independent of the climate camps.
Information about these plans can be found on Twitter @KidsRevolution  http://twitter.com/kidsrevolution
and also on these websites:  http://sites.google.com/site/thechildrensrevolution
 http://sites.google.com/site/canyousavethehumanrace/

The Children of the Eco-Warriors would like to invite all the different groups and organisations that collectively make up the Camp for Climate Action to leave the bureaucratic management of the climate camp behind and join in with the Children's Revolution instead.
This project of the kids' bloc has always been completely autonomous without any leadership and no dictatorial tyranny and it used to function perfectly until it was hijacked and destroyed by sinister faceless unaccountable people at the Camp for Climate Action at Kingsnorth.

All the fluffy hippies and their children joined in the first Children's Revolution at the G8 protests in Scotland in July 2005 where the kids' bloc started the idea of having their own autonomous blockade of the Gleneagles hotel where Tony Blair and George Bush were holed up.
Angel and Sunshine and Rinky Dink and Raga the Quaker peace activist and Kristoff the clown and the Clown Army and the Rhythms of Resistance and Peace Not War and People and Planet all helped to make everything work very smoothly without any real trouble from the police.
At the Heathrow Camp for Climate Action the same kids led the march with their banner “The Kids Are Revolting!”and the police liaison was all done well beforehand by the Earth Aid Environmental Campaign.

However after what happened to the mothers and their children at Kingsnorth the kids themselves have decided that they will not be returning again to future climate camps which is why they are now inviting all their friends to join them in attempting to close down the political system in Britain.
The plan is to occupy St James park in London on 27 August 2009 for a Youth Summit Conference and a Children's Peace Festival and to march to Parliament Square to signal their intention to arrest all the corrupt politicians in Britain.

The parents of the Children of the Eco-Warriors are asking all our friends in the environmental movement to listen to their children and to show them all a bit more respect and help them to do what they want to do themselves.
The children now have the legal right to be heard and to be consulted under the terms of the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child which has been signed into law in the UK.

We believe that the time has now come to follow the kids and to help them save themselves from the fate that looks almost inevitable as the Earth's temperatures rise and the polar ice melts and the rising seas and the melting methane threaten an Apocalyptic future for all the children alive today.
The extinction of humanity is looming this century according to many eminent climate scientists and if the environmental activists cannot try to change the capitalist system to ensure the survival of future generations then who can?
More details about the proposed Children's Revolution at St James park on 27 August and in Parliament Square several days later will be posted on Indymedia UK soon.

The last attempt by the Children of the Eco-Warriors at holding a Children's Revolution event at a climate camp was reported by the Earth Aid Environmental Campaign on Indymedia UK on 7 August 2008.
Our story was entitled “Children's Revolution March From Climate Camp on Kingsnorth Day of Mass Action” and it went as follows:

The Children of the Eco Warriors will lead the Children's Revolution march with children of local residents from the site of the Camp for Climate Action near the Kingsnorth power station on Saturday.
Some of the parents of the children on the site and some of the local members of the Kingsnorth Climate Action group have asked the Metropolitan police for a written guarantee that they will not harass or attack any of the children on the march.

During the Day of Mass Action many of the climate campers will stay on the site to help organise a children's peace festival for families planning to stay on site, and a large group of former servicemen from Iraq and Afghanistan will also stay behind to provide additional security in case of any trouble.
Local residents will be protesting against the Kingsnorth power station and they are promising a day of music, performances, and entertainment for the children.

The Carbon Town Cryer will be performing during the march and friends of Angel and Sunshine are hoping that they will be present to sing their song "For the Children" which asks the question "What have we done to our Earth, where is the love for our children?"
The Children of the Eco-Warriors have issued an invitation to everyone who would like to come and get involved to do so, and they would particularly like to welcome musicians, clowns, samba bands, and other alternative entertainers to join them for a day of positive direct action to ensure the survival of future generations and to save the human race from extinction.

There was one comment headed “do you just make it up?” which was posted on 13 August 2008.
"a large group of former servicemen from Iraq and Afghanistan will also stay behind to provide additional security in case of any trouble" ?!
i'm finding myself questioning the worth of your 'news' reports
i was at the camp all week, and attended the meetings where we planned our site security for the saturday.
i was part of the response team that was subsequently formed in order to defend the site against police incursions.

although the response team might have included a couple of ex-service personnel, i know enough about the vast majority of people i was working with (including their current & former careers) to find your statement utterly baffling.
how many people were in this "large group" you mention? and what did they actually do on saturday?
cos i didn't encounter them while we were defending the site...
i've read through many of your posts from climate camp, and frequently find myself cringing as i do...
eg "Children of the Eco Warriors"?!
- did the young people in question make that name up for themselves?
or is a case of some random adult (possibly you) giving them that name?

(and at the same time, insulting their parents - and many of the rest of us who protested against roads etc in the '90s- by labelling us 'eco-warriors', which was a problematic term invented by the media in the first place: why not go the whole hog and describe everything at the camp as 'makeshift' while you're at it?!)
needless to say, like many other commenters, i am also offended that you felt the need to put women into some special category when you were describing the police violence... if it had been a heavily-pregnant or breastfeeding woman, then maybe this information would be more relevant.

finally, you published a fairly sensationalist article about a teenaged girl which included the line:
"Photographs of the missing girl have been circulated by the camp legal and media teams and the video of the assault is being shown to all the campers on the site"
so how come i don't know anyone who's seen this video or even heard about it? (and i was there for the week, awake for at least 75% of the time and often on/near a radio).

like me, various people commented, asking for more details of this exciting 'kidnapping' story, for a link to the photo and video, basically for more facts.
you still haven't responded to their comments, so i'm not expecting you to bother replying to my feedback either.
however, i wish you'd *think* more before publishing (if necessary get another person to read over the text first, and give you some good feedback before you send it), remain factual (if this is something you are capable of doing), and actually provide the level of detail that people need in order to get a clear sense of what's actually happened at the event.
concerned camper

This is the reply from the Earth Aid Environmental Campaign written on 30 June 2009:
To concerned camper,
Because you posted this comment six days after the original story as the climate camp was coming to an end I did not see it until nearly a year later because there was no reason for me to be checking out my past stories on Indymedia.
What you have done by writing this is to provide me with further proof of the truth about some of the allegations that have been made by a lot of genuine full-time activists against people like you who appear to be claiming to be representing the Camp for Climate Action.
You are not the only climate camper who seems to believe that you are entitled to tell other people what to do and to make sneering mocking belittling comments about them and their work that has absolutely no justification in reality.

Far from being “random” as you so quaintly put it for many years I have been personally handling the publicity and legal work for the Children of the Eco-Warriors who are a small group of the children of personal friends of mine.
There is no reason why you should be aware of this just as there is no reason either for your ignorant criticisms.
Our group of friends and families of some of the road protesters from the 1990s regard ourselves as being autonomous when we come to the climate camps and we just get on with doing things in the same way that we have always done.
This meant essentially that we defended ourselves and our children and fought the police at the gates of the Kingsnorth climate camp while people like you were sitting around in the marquees holding your tedious and interminable meetings.

Your claim to be offended and insulted by what I wrote is absurd because none of my reports mentioned you and nor were they about you by any stretch of the imagination.
I have looked at my reports on Indymedia and cannot find these large numbers of commenters you refer to and the people who did comment got an immediate response which is quite clear because my replies are still there on the newswire.
There were only about 16 ex-servicemen in the group that offered to provide protection for the Children of the Eco-Warriors and their mothers, and they were the same group that first made this offer to us at the Heathrow Camp for Climate Action.

Fair play to you, I admit I exaggerated a bit by calling it a “large” group but that was to send a message to the police not to attempt to attack the mothers and their children again when the husbands and fathers were away on the day of mass action.
I admit I do not know what the ex-servicemen did on the Saturday because in the end none of the mothers decided to stay behind for a children's peace festival and I was with the main march with my friends filming them getting attacked and harassed and snatched by the riot police.
But in any event the ex-servicemen are all young hardened killers trained by the British army and they do not march about in formation shouting “left, right, left, right, left” at each other and nor do they engage in line dancing so there was no reason for them to be visible to anyone.

The fact is that the ex-servicemen are also an autonomous group who attend the climate camps quietly and they come from all over the country and they stay in their own neighbourhoods and they do not advertise their presence or join in with the climate camp meetings.
At the climate camps they stay in touch with each other and they are always ready for trouble if and when it comes but they know better than to be too visible because they are only too well aware that there are undercover police at the meetings in the marquees if you get my drift.
These people are friends of ours and they are part of our extended family which lives and works on the protest sites around Britain and they are all ordinary working class people just like most of the rest of our tribe.

We all work together and we are in fact the activists who provide the back-up and support for most of the groups and organizations in London and beyond.
At the squat where I live in north London we rescue and repair activists' vehicles free of charge and also provide computer resources and renewable energies and a free environmental help and advice service which includes legal and media work for our protest campaigns as well.
What I do not understand is why out of all the individuals and groups and organisations that we work very closely with the Camp for Climate Action is the only one that persistently treats us with complete contempt and abuses us and our children as well.

Could it be that this is what the British upper and middle class has always been like or are you and the rest of your people just ignorant and arrogant and spoiled and ungrateful and stupid?
A lot of the climate campers seem to be part of the same crowd who claim that “the land is ours” when what they really mean is that the land is mummy's and daddy's.
You claim that I was insulting the parents by reporting about what was happening to the Children of the Eco-Warriors at the Kingsnorth climate camp.
You seemed to take it personally as if I was somehow deliberately offending you but what I reported was only about the people that it was about and not about you and your friends.

The fact is that most of the Children of the Eco-warriors are just babies and toddlers and it is the mothers who are objecting to the way that they have all been treated at the camps for climate action.
It is not always possible to be detailed and specific and name names as I am sure you will understand.
The kids started using the name The Children of the Eco-Warriors years ago in the 1990s in response to the media calling us eco-warriors and it was always considered to be a joke just like all the other silly “earth names” that we all gave ourselves and the banner that the kids painted saying “The Kids Are Revolting!”

It should be obvious that this was all just a satirical way of ridiculing and lampooning our enemies in the government and the big corporations and trying to expose their folly and their prejudices, but maybe this is a little bit too far beyond your understanding to appreciate.
You suggest that I may be a random adult who made up the name The Children of the Eco-Warriors myself and that I am insulting their parents and people like you who seem to take the mainstream media's labels all very seriously.
During the road protests of the 1990s many of my friends claimed to be super heroes from outer space saving the world from the evil Aliens and we all had a good laugh while we fought the riot police and we still enjoy what we do even if frosty-faced people like you don't approve of us.

If it all sounds like fluffy hippy-dippy stuff the fact is that we always made a determined effort to liaise properly with the police and even when we had to fight them we never put the children in any danger which is a lot more than can be said about you and your lot of middle class wannabe green generals and dictators.
Instead of being offended by the label eco-warriors we just adopted it as a joke in the same way that the Quakers adopted this deliberately insulting name they were given because they accepted and lived by the biblical injunction: “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”.

The Quakers took the attitude that quaking in fear of God was a perfectly acceptable thing to do and the fact is that The Children of the Eco-Warriors called themselves that name in response to their parents being called eco-warriors by the news media.
My friends and family have always been happy to have me helping them with their legal work and their publicity possibly because I live on site with them and we are all involved with our campaigning work together.

I fail to understand why you were offended by my story that women and children were attacked by the riot police with pepper spray and tear gas and then baton charged as well.
The fact is that this did actually happen and I filmed it happening and I jumped off the top of the van where I was filming and I helped to chase the riot police off the site.
I cannot see why you think that I put the women and children into a “special category” as you called it because all I did was to accurately report what I saw and filmed.

I did not report that the teenage girl had been kidnapped by the police.
What I wrote was that she had been illegally assaulted from behind and snatched in a brutally painful way.
My report was not intended to be sensationalist or exciting but it was just an accurate account of what had happened and it was posted very quickly without any checking with the purpose of trying to get some help in getting her released because her friends were very worried about her.
This was not a legal arrest as far as I was concerned but a serious assault on an underage minor and I do not see why you are objecting to this being reported.
I filmed the assault with my video camera and the Indymedia legal team uploaded some of the footage immediately and you could have viewed it at the time if you had wanted to.

It is still there and it is not hard to find.
Try looking for “Footage of police shoving campers around at Kingsnorth protest” posed by adelayde on 13 August 2008 which was the same day that you posted your insulting and offensive comment on my story about the kids' bloc march.
“Footage from the Kingsnorth Power Station protest on 9th August 2008 with a considerable amount of shoving around of climate campers on the part of Her Majesty's Police Force.
“Video at  http://blip.tv/file/1167554”

The fact is that I posted a story on Indymedia two weeks before the climate camp warning parents not to bring their children to the climate camp because there were rumors of police infiltration and plans to attack everybody including the mothers and the children again just like at the first climate camp at Drax but much worse.
As an alternative journalist with many years' experience I decided that it was my duty to publish this story but it was banned from the Indymedia newswire immediately it appeared and as a result many people did not get to see it and they came to the camp and they got attacked by the police as a result.
I had not intended to come to the camp myself but as a result of having my story banned by Indymedia I did come to find out what was actually going on and to try to help protect my friends and their children as well.

After some of the mothers and their children were tear gased and pepper sprayed and baton charged by the riot police at the back gate on the first day of the climate camp there was a natural reluctance to experience this sort of thing again on the day of mass action.
Most of the children believed that they were supposed to be going on a separate kids' march to the local village where they would have been safe but they were obliged to go on the main march even though they did not want to and at the end of the day the older teenagers were assaulted by the police and one of them was dragged away screaming in pain.

After I let the man from the Indymedia legal team use my video camera to upload the footage of the teenage girl being snatched by the police he broke my camera and ran off the site in such a hurry he nearly fell over at the gate.
He told me that he worked for the Indymedia and climate camp legal team and that it was his job to help look after people in trouble and he also claimed to have been injured at the G8 protests in Genoa so I was surprised when he disappeared off the site so quickly.
He put a lot of pressure on me to hand my video camera over to him and I felt that I was obliged to do so but the fact is that the work to get still photos of the missing girl and to upload some of the video footage had already been done but the man from the indymedia legal team claimed that it needed to be done again.
It wasn't until some time after he handed my video camera back to me and then rushed off the site that I discovered that my video camera had apparently been tampered with and that it was completely jammed up and did not work anymore.

There are a lot of questions being asked about the way that some of the people claiming to have some kind of authority over other people at the climate camps have been behaving and many people have given up on being involved and that includes most of the Children of the Eco-warriors.
If you are wondering how I know so much about them it is because they are the children of my friends and we tell each other who is giving us grief and what we might have to do about it.

I did respond to all the comments that were made to my reports and if they were as inaccurate as you claim surely it is fair to ask why didn't the Indymedia moderators just ban them all at the time.
After all I was staying right next to the Be the Media tent with Coltech and Aaron and other friends and their children from the road protests of the 1990s and we were supplying Indymedia with all their electricity.
Nobody else complained about my reports as far as I know and the moderators were right there beside me in the tent and none of the children objected to my reporting about what they were saying and doing probably because they asked me to publish their stories for them on their behalf.

In fact after the Children of the Eco-Warriors held a meeting of their own to discuss the fact that they objected to being used as human shields and Hitler Youth on the day of mass action they came and told Aaron and me about it and asked for our help to fight back against the people at the climate camp who had been ordering them around.
The fact that you seem to be accusing me of lying in my reports and you say there is not enough detail has inspired me to reveal a lot more about the things that are troubling many people about the climate camps and the way they are being organsised and the things that have been occurring.

It seems to me that you appear to be trying to deny that women and children were brutally attacked by the riot police at the back gate on the first day of the climate camp and that the teenagers were also assaulted and pushed around at the end of the day of mass action.
The fact is that these things did happen and it could well be that the Camp for Climate Action should accept some responsibility for setting the stage for this sort of thing to occur.
“Shoot the messenger” seems to be your attitude instead of admitting that there is something wrong with an environmental protest that claims to be “child-friendly” and is in fact nothing of the sort.

There is a middle class clique at the climate camps which looks down their noses at the working class activists and treats us with contempt trying to tell us what to do and how to do it apparently in an attempt to get us under their control.
This atmosphere of sel-assumed superiority seems to be based on wealth and education and upbringing and it is repulsive and obnoxious and demeaning and inappropriate.
You obviously know nothing whatever about the working class activists who were the backbone of the 1990s road protests and who opened the sites and who stayed and fought the government and the corporations and the police right up to the bitter end.

We lived and worked on the sites and we did not just come out our rich houses to try to control and dictate to other people and do a pompous and arrogant “two's up on your lifestyle” which is what the middle class media tarts tried to do to most of us at the time.
Our squatted protest sites were our homes and anyone who wanted to come and join in with the campaigns was welcome and we invited participation but we did not expect to be bullied and ordered around by rich people looking to make easy money out of going on television and selling their books about us to the gullible public.

This sort of thing is still happening today and it is being done by the same people and the same kind of people who seem to think working class activists are fair game to be used and abused and exploited by people like them who are really nothing more than part-time activists engaging in publicity stunts at our expense.
It would be impossible for alternative journalists like me to write news stories aimed at being read and understood by ordinary working people if we had to interpret everything we wrote in terms of middle class political correctness.
According to your self-assumed orders women should not be mentioned unless they are heavily pregnant or breast feeding and commonly recognised terms like “eco-warriors” must not be used because people like you might feel insulted and offended.

With the utmost respect the work that me and my friends and their children do is not all about you or people like you who believe that they have the right to order us about and tell us what we are and are not allowed to do.
In fact it's not really any of your business what we do and this kind of repulsive superior attitude and behaviour is causing immense damage to the environmental movement and has created a split between the middle class and the working class activists that will probably be very difficult to resolve.

I do not see what right you think you have to be so insulting and offensive towards someone like me who has done you no harm and you don't even know me or who I am or what I do because if you did know any of my friends and family then you would not have written what you did.
If you had wanted to speak with me at the climate camp everyone knew where I was and they would have been only too happy to show you where I was staying underneath the pirate flag beside the Be the Media tent helping provide the electricity that powered Indymedia and the alternative radio and TV stations.

Your condescending attitude and dictatorial presumption is part of what a lot of other people are also complaining about right now and it is a shame to see the Camp for Climate Action which started out as a very promising cooperative enterprise just falling apart with working class people refusing to come anymore because they have had enough of being bullied and belittled by wealthy middle and upper class snobs.
Thank you for motivating me to speak out against the injustice and tyranny that I believe has become endemic at the Camp for Climate Action and hopefully this posting on Indymedia will provide all the extra details that you have asked me to produce for you and the all the rest of the anonymous commenters whose interests you claim to represent.

Someone said to me after Indymedia banned my posting warning people not to bring their children to the Kingsnorth climate camp that they could think of a good word for the people who had done this.
I don't know what word he had in mind but the word that springs to mind for the people you claim to have commented adversely about my postings is “trolls”.
Your own comment reminded me that there were so many people like you talking and acting like coppers all the time at the Kingsnorth climate camp asking questions, making demands, telling other people what to do and trying to lay down the law to them.
This pompous arrogance and authoritarian tyranny all seemed very mysterious and it has led to much speculation about who is actually in control of the Camp for Climate Action and its draconian policies and actions that have split the environmental movement wide open and brought us all into disrepute.

The radical feminists have referred to it as “fascism” and John Vidal the environment editor of the Guardian called it the arrogance of jumped-up public schoolboys with their heads up their arses.
Ian Bone of Class War says the climate campers are all stuck-up snobs and he wrote in his blog: “Has there ever been a bunch of middle class wankers to match that crew of self-righteous smug holier than thou trustsafarians at CAMP CLIMATE CHANGE dedicated to stopping working class families having a cheapo holiday in Spain while no doubt planning their gap year round the world save the Kalahari bushmen eco-friendly filmed for Channel 4 planet saving organic soil association junket!
“Surely one plum in the mouth GEORGE MONBIOT is enough but a whole fucking field of them... where’s foot in the fucking mouth when you fucking need it? EH?”

A perfect example of the bullying that was going on at Kingsnorth occurred when Dave Douglass of the National Union of Mineworkers kept getting asked if he had permission to hand out his leaflets in the climate camp field and he told his tormenters to go away and leave him alone in no uncertain terms.
The fact is that people like you might like to think that they have some kind of power over ordinary working class people like us and our children but we will see what the courts have to say about it when our lawyers take private criminal prosecutions against the Camp for Climate Action for deliberately putting the lives of our kids in danger.

Thank you once again and this will probably be the last time that you will be insulted and offended by me because if I can I am going to get the whole lot of you locked up in prison for a very long time regardless of whether you are undercover police or just a bunch of self-righteos heartless arrogant bullies.
With the utmost respect,
Nick.

PS At least I always give my own name and my email address and frequently my phone number as well which is more than can be said about most of the rest of the people who post anonymously on Indymedia, including you.
If you are actually interested in what the Children of the Eco-Warriors are all about you can talk to me in real time by phone or @KidsRevolution on Twitter or email me at  thekidsarerevolting@googlemail.com
Anyone who wants to discuss these matters or challenge anything I have written is welcome to visit me at the War on Waste squat with Slow Tony and Jacko and Sarah in Enfield, north London, at any time - but I do not imagine that many of the so-called decent ethical honest climate campers would have the guts to confront me in person and risk being identified for what I believe a lot of them actually are.
Nick.
