Aim achieved I think

I agree this was not a "failure". The people involved obviously pulled off what they intended. They couldn't have intended to shut Kingsnorth down or even seriously disrupt its coal supply. Coal-fired power stations usually have 20-30 days' coal in stock at any time. It's not just the coal stocks you can see in great heaps outside. They are moved first to the milling plant, where the coal is crushed to a powder. There's usually a couple of weeks' stock of the milled coal inside the plant, where it's not visible. Anyone really wanting to bugger up a coal-fired power station would try to close off its water supply, not the coal supply. The plant would then have to be shut-down immediately.

Not such a failure!

I think there's more to this than just failing to stop the boat docking!
There are still people on the boat, and the e-on statement makes it clear that is causing problems for them.
This is all over the headlines on the BBC and other news sites... yet more bad press for e-on, and another opportunity for us to voice OUR opinions.
And, of course, getting up off your arse and doing something about what you believe in should NEVER be classed as failure!
I agree its a shame the boat docked... but that said, It's never possible to know how an action will work out, and so to carry on and do it in the hope of success, despite the odds, is grand. I have no idea what the goal of the action was precisely, as I havent been part of it, but I'm guessing if it was purely to stop the boat docking and landind the coal, that wouldnt have stopped production because they have masses of the stuff stocked up. I dont know.... what I do know is that this is a great and risky thing to have done, and they deserve our praise... so GOOD ON THEM!

let's show a bit of support, eh?

22.06.2009 14:09

quite. I think the whole negative tone of this is a bit off. Shouldn't we be extending our solidarity to everyone who takes action to stop dirty coal power, and helping them get their message out?

Also - in reality, nobody jumped off the mast.

10 arrested now!

The four up the mast have now been nicked to add to the 6 already a Medway - dunno how many boats have been lost but there seems to be a car an a van from Essex missing.

Orginal post mistaken

Despite the ship docking, they have yet to manage to unload any coal, so a pretty succesful day..

Equally no-one jumped from the mast, no one has been rescued from the Medway and none of the boats have been seized, so I'm not sure where the orginal poster gets their info from.

Inaccurate

The article should be hidden as inaccurate - see comments above.

It would be good if someone wrote an accurate account of what happened.
