Green Kite Midnight serenades BP Portrait Award ceremony

Green Kite Midnight - a new band created especially for street, benefit and maybe Climate Camp marquee - was spotted tonight serenading those attending the ceremony to announce the winner of the BP Portrait Award, those traditionally being ladies and gents plucked from the highest echelons of the ruling elite, not to mention a few grubby artists hoping to snatch first prize and 25 BP-donated grand.

The band - fresh from ceilidhing at the Climate Camp in the city, and playing outside BP's activist-postponed centenary party at the British Museum - ran through its disco-tinged BP and Art Not Oil-related repertoire ('Celebrate This!', 'Let's Dance, Let's Shout, Time Shut That Big Oil Down' & 'I Took A Chainsaw to a Patio Heater Today') several times, while 'BP - your party's over!' postcards were handed out to the receptive but hardly rapturous guests. Passers-by were seen to dance, bus passengers were seen to wave, bemused tourists were seen to wield cameras. The music was disobedient, but this time we weren't.

Let's keep the pressure up on these merchants of climate chaos wherever their tainted logos appear, especially when that's on the posters of our most-visited cultural institutions, where the 'they must be OK if they pay for this' propaganda seeps into many skulls, young and old.

We can send you BP postcards if you send over an email, or better still pick 'em up at LARC, or send an SAE to ANO, c/o LARC, 62 Fieldgate Street, London E1 1ES.
