Manchester protest?

09.06.2009 15:05

Note on the BBC report, it says...

"Mr Griffin said the BNP plans to hold a press conference in Manchester tomorrow and he hopes that the police will take action against any violent protests."

Are there any plans to protest this too anyone know?

Awesome!

Brilliant!! Well done all. This is an interesting time. What I'm looking forward to is when they start teaming up in Europe with other fash. Some of the other groups in Europe are not as savy as the BNP at hiding their real agenda.

Pointless!!!

09.06.2009 16:35

A pointless exercise which has given Griffin and the BNP a big publicity coup for a number of reasons.

1. The incident will be portrayed by griffin and maybe some in the media as an attack on elected politicians by left wing thugs.

2. An attack on democracy and free speech(not that griffin believes in either mind you)

3. Judging by peoples reactions and political pundits reactions it could give the BNP at least some sympathy amongst the populace.

I think the attack on Griffin was pointless and counterproductive. If you have to duff up the fascists then dont do it in front of television cameras. Those fucking muppets in UAF have given the BNP the oxygen of publicity. Those scenes in westminster will give the BNP sympathy not emnity, good publicity not bad publicity, Dont you fuckers in UAF realise that we are dealing with a different beast here not the BNP of 20 years ago streets and all but a BNP who preach free speech, democracy and have embraced electoralism. We need new strategies to defeat this threat not old sterotypical slogans, wishful thinking, or unwise physical confrontations. The BNP have moved on, the dead left it appears have not. Sad really!!!

BNP

Always good to see a well organised protest.... but.

For me, what is far scarier than the BNP, is the BNP or any other voice being forcilbly silenced. Who is the fascist then?

Let them dig there own grave.

Give them air time

09.06.2009 17:25

Whilst I think there is a time to confront these knuckle dragging buffoons I think they should be given air time.

The reason is that they truely are thick and bigoted and if they are allowed to speak they will surely do themselves more damage.
We have to be careful not to allow them to become matyres.

to those calling 4 free speech..

09.06.2009 17:51

As someone pointed out on here before, Hitler was elected. The German people have lived with that shame for generations now. How easily people forget the cause of so much horror across the world because of their passivity in the face of fascism. How 'free speech' died in the throats of anyone dissenting.
The fact that so many thought , well, he speaks dynamically and he should be allowed to voice his opinions... I don't ever want to have to say to my grandchildren "Well, I thought he should be allowed his free speech and anyhow, he was elected".
The BNP must be stopped now. Remember that fantasy scenario where you could, given a chance, have crushed Hitler at the start? This is that moment.

Democracy?

09.06.2009 18:34

I am always a bit confused by why people think we should be forced to listen to the BNP. The fact that they could stand for election at all is a disgrace. Since they do not allow "non indigenous" people to join their party, they have clearly discualified themselves from the democratic process. That racist, inequality clause would not be allowed in any other workplace, or by any other employer, so why in politics? I suppose as an anarchist I could point that that exposes the system for what it is...

While disrupting press conferences might not be the only tactic in takeing on the bnp ,its definetley a step forward in turns of where the UAF are at ,if your gonna shout Nazi at them at least make them cower in fear...Martin Reynolds was a joke in that clip, looked out of breath after 5 seconds

Free Speech

09.06.2009 19:23

The BNP are able to exercise free speech, they have a website, they hold meetings, in this case they even set up a press conference outside parliament. They can express what they believe within reasonable legal restrictions. However with any speech they have to expect a reaction. Freedom of speech comes with responsibilities and of course if you say things that offend or threaten people then those people are going to react, they may argue back, they back shout you down and they may throw eggs or punch you in the face. This isn't an affront to free speech it's merely a rational reaction to those who organise in fascist parties and seek to divide the country along racial lines. We do not live in a world where your words go unnoticed or every view is taken to hold the same weight as any other.

Well done to the usually fluffy and passive UAF for actually doing something a bit different for a change. However if we really want to stop the BNP we have to organise in our communities and workplaces, promote class solidarity and offer real solutions to peoples problems. Eggs and fists alone won't stop the BNP.

On another note, is that Martin Reynolds slacking behind the crowds, he wants to get jogging or something he looks well out of shape!

So they now believe in the electoral process...

09.06.2009 19:56

...here's an idea.

Find the equality legislation as it applies to those holding office in this country. That is bound to say that the fash are not allowed to bar membership of their party on the grounds of race, gender etc.

Get all active groups from all different ethnic backgrounds in this country who oppose fascism to join the party en masse, hopefully creating a majority in the party.

Call for a vote of no confidence in the leadership, using the majority to force it through then elect a new antifascist leader.

See how long the average bnp bonehead continues to believe in the *democratic process* before their true colours are exposed to the world.

Probably not possible but it's a nice thought :-)

Both MEP's addresses and phone numbers are on the leaked membership list...

09.06.2009 20:26

Both MEP's addresses and phone numbers are on the leaked BNP membership list. Just sayin'...

Nick Griffin is in Welshpool and Andrew Brons is in Harrogate.

I won't post the full details because I know it's against Indymedia policy and I don't want to give the state an excuse to harass them. But I'm sure people have copies of the list or know where to look for it.

If any locals can confirm whether they still live there or have moved that might be useful.

The least Griffin deserves

09.06.2009 20:42

This is the least the BNP deserve, especially for having a press conference in front of parliament. An egg or two is nothing, and is like a custard pie.

The incident will give heart to the passive millions of anti fascists there are.

The anarchists as usual are nowhere to be seen, they are unorganised politically and cannot spot a political situation, and I say this because it is so bleedingly obvious.

The UAF are right about some things and wrong about others, but at least they do something. Only those who do nothing make no mistakes.

Gesture politics

10.06.2009 00:40

Well I'm sure it made the pelters feel good, but I can't see it will do to harm the BNP. If anything it will increase their support when it appears that the far-left, who were massacred in the election and didn't win a single seat, are venting their rage and frustration.

As such it is merely gesture politics that have seen the far left marginalised and increasingly irrelevant.

''Eggs and fists alone won't stop the BNP''

10.06.2009 07:49

Perhaps no-one would have even known they were doing a press conference if the demo hadn't brought it to the front page of most news publishers...

If I were the BNP now I'd feel more resilient, more angry, more productive.

If you really want to achieve something go talk to the people who voted for them, for they have more sympathy for the BNP now than ever before...

Sorry, I just don't get it. This action reeks of personal attacks and self-vindication.

You liberal idiots can whine all you like about 'free speech' for the BNP, but don't do it in our name. Antifa do not have a Tyneside group, and this rubbish is quite contrary to what we believe.
