SPEAK Magical Mystery Tour

X | 21.05.2009 13:29 | Animal Liberation | Oxford

With the admission that up to 16,000 animals are being kept in Oxford University's labs for the purposes of experimentation, SPEAK campaigners took to the streets on Tuesday to expose the horror of vivisection at the university.

The figures were finally released several years after the initial BUAV Freedom of Information request, which Oxford University sought to circumvent.

Activists split into smaller groups, simultaneously staging street theatre, doing banner drops and demos at various university sites.

One large banner was dropped from St. Michael's church on the busy Cornmarket St, while another reading 'Tour the City of Animal Abuse: No Oxford Lab' was hung from one of the sightseeing buses as it toured the city.
Through a megaphone, they described the invasive neurological experiments which primates have been and continue to be subjected to at Oxford University, before moving on to the next location - all the while keeping the plod & security on their toes.

Campaigners were satisfied that a clear message was sent out to Oxford uni, as well as other academic institutions who insist on pursuing so archaic and immoral a practice as vivisection, that they will be met by dogged resistance.
