Ronnie Easterbrook died in HMP Gartree on May 10th 2009. I knew him during a quite brief period of correspondence. I share the anger felt by many at his passing and extend sincere condolences to family and all who knew him including other people in prison. Ronnie came over as an articulate man of principle and integrity convinced of the truth of his concerns. Among items Ronnie sent me was a letter headed “To whom it may concern” dated 22/8/07 in which he said –
“Some four or five years ago I was on hunger strike over my detention and was called up to see a new Doctor in Whitemoor, she asked me the reason for the hunger strike and I told her I was driven into periodic deep depression by my situation. She then asked me what the situation was and I told her of the Home Office and senior members of the Judiciary’s criminal conspiracy against me. At this she cast a quizzical look at the male prison officer holding my record, he then said in an exasperated tone “Every word he says is true” and with that he pulled out a one page letter and put it in front of the Doctor, she read it and said no more before dismissing me –“
May Ronnie rest in peace

I assume he still did armed robbery though.... ie. pointing or planning to point a gun or other dangerous device at someone and threathening with physical harm if they don't pay up?
