police attacking tamils tonight

rikki | 18.05.2009 23:53 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War

eye-witnesses claim many injured as police push tamils from two sides, leaving them with nowhere to go. there is panic among the peaceful protestors, and people are being crushed against barriers. police are not in riot gear because they have experienced over and over that the tamils are completely non-violent.

Contradiction?

The article says they 'broke through police lines'. That doesn't sound non violent.

police attacking tamils tonight ????

I am lost my the title of this post. The police have cleared the road so normal people can go about there business. I always thought that wilful obstruction of the highway was an offence???? Yet again Ricky is blowing this out of proportion.

Some perspective??

People are being massacred and twats are always more interested in blocking the public highway and other bullshit offences. Breaking through police lines when you are being detained illegally is a legitimate thing to do. Oh no I hope our protest doesn't break any laws... with current SOCPA, CJA and Public order act your days of protesting within legal boundaries are fucked anyway you can't even read the names of the dead without facing police heavies. All of this legislation came about because of prats who think its too much of a big deal to block the highway and disturb the peace by using their voices.

What's the point?

It's all over now, the LTTE are routed and Prabhakran is dead, what's the point? This recently finished civil war had little to do with Britain so I don't see what these people were hoping to achieve by pressurising Parliament. The UK government has already angered the Sri Lankan government by being perceived as pro-LTTE. What do they want us to do, invade Sri Lanka and force a Tamil Eelam on it?

U kidding observer?

All over? Why because the Sri Lankan government said so? Try telling that to the tens of thousands that are being held in concentration camps, try telling that to all the children that have recently see their parents killed by the Sri Lankan army or by government backed militia, try telling that to the hundreds and thousands of Tamils that still fear persecution at the hands of the Sri Lankan state.

This aint over. As the fact that hundreds are still on the streets suggests

Sri Lanka State Terrorism & Concentration Camps

19.05.2009 18:24

The Sri Lankan Army has killed many thousands of innocent Tamils this year, several thousand in the last couple of weeks. This is the most extreme violence that has occurred during the entire 3 decade long conflict.

Anyone defending the actions of the SLA and their conduct in this war in particular is scum.

There seems to be a concerted effort by people probably in the pay of the Sri Lankan state who are posting garbage on numerous websites from indymdia to the guardian.

In the pay of?

Do you really think the Sri Lankan government is paying people to post on here? That's rather silly.

More likely is the fact that the LTTE was for decades a particularly notorious group and many are glad to see the back of it.
