Greyhound Derby demo/leafletting
Tony Peters | 16.05.2009 17:27 | Animal Liberation
The race meeting at Wimbledon Stadium on Saturday May 30th includes the Final of the Greyhound Derby, the biggest event in the British greyhound racing calendar.
For this reason, our South West London branch are appealing for extra support for their demo/leafletting outside the stadium that evening, so please do your best to attend, especially if you live in or near the area.
There will be a demo outside the main gate of the stadium from 5.15pm until 8pm and then leafletting from 10pm until 11.30pm to catch the punters coming out.
If you can help at either, or both, of these, please contact Simon on 07847 479961.
Extra help is also needed with leafletting on Saturday 23rd, when the semi-finals of the event are taking place. Once again, please call Simon, if you can help.
Address of Wimbledon Stadium is Plough Lane, London, SW17 0BL and a map showing the stadium location can be found at http://tinyurl.com/WimbledonStadiumMap
Public transport directions are as follows:-
By Rail: Haydons Road (First Capital Connect) or Earlsfield (from Waterloo - Southwest Trains). All stations are a short cab ride to the stadium.
By Tube: Tooting Broadway (Northern Line), Wimbledon station (District Line), both stations are a short drive from the stadium and Wimbledon Station has a black cab rank outside.
By Bus: Bus routes: 44, 77, 156 pass the junction at the top of Alexandra Road and Haydons Road. The stadium is a short walk from the bus stop. Bus route 493 stops outside the main Stadium entrance.

Good luck but. . . .

Sure some of them are discarded and killed just like rubbish but most of them aren't.
Asking people to ban or boycott greyhound racing in a society full of rampant meat eaters is a bit pointless no?

Also, it is not pointless as i know of quite a few meat eaters who are against the dog/horse racing. Many people who go to these things actually do not know how these dogs are really treated until seeing pictures, reading leaflets or just asking about the horrors of the dog racing industry at a demo.

Greyhound Awareness Week
17.05.2009 19:18
Saturday 23rd May 2009 to Sunday 31st May
Greyhound Awareness Week gives an opportunity for all those concerned about the plight of greyhounds to educate the public about the mass slaughter of dogs caused by the greyhound racing industry. With a large enough boycott by ordinary people, the industry can be brought to its knees and the suffering and untimely death of thousands of greyhounds prevented.
Anyone who would like to take part, please contact Greyhound Action for leaflets, posters, petition forms etc.
Street stalls and/or demos will be taking place throughout the country.
Please organise in your area.
Regular demos and campaigns are held in:
Birmingham | Coventry | East Anglia | London | Manchester | Nottingham
Scotland | Sittingbourne | Sheffield | Worcestershire | Wolverhampton

Nottingham Greyhound Stadium Demo
Friday 22nd May 2009 & alternate Fridays
Details from http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=1535
Leafleting Nottingham Greyhound Stadium on alternate Friday evenings. 7.15pm until about 8.30pm. Call 07908 320418 to confirm demo details.
Demo coincides with a greyhound race meeting taking place at the stadium and the aim is to educate people about the associated suffering of racing dogs. Greyhound racing has lost 500,000 racegoers in the last 5 years ... and last year greyhound breeding fell by 13% resulting in 5000 less dogs being killed.

Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium Demo
Every Saturday
Details from http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=542
Leafleting outside Wimbledon greyhound race track Saturday evenings 10.15pm until about 11.30pm. If enough people want to help and prefer 6.15pm until about 8pm two shifts can be arranged. If anyone can make just one Saturday it will make all the difference. It shows the greyhound racing industry another person is against the industry even for that one evening.

Coventry Against Greyhound Exploitation
18:30 to 19:30 - Every Saturday
Details from http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=45
It is important that pressure is kept up on the Coventry track, as attendances are falling, with a great deal of dissatisfaction from punters, and even some greyhound racing enthusiasts are claiming that dog racing will come to an end there within a few months unless the situation improves.
Weekly demos against dog racing outside Coventry Stadium at Brandon will take place every Saturday from 6.30pm - 7.30pm, instead of from 7 until 8. To confirm call 07771 953465
