The first plaque to remember the members of the Independent Labour Party who fought in the Spanish Civil War alongside the POUM on the Aragon Front is to be unveiled in Manchester on May 30th.

A quick mention that a plaque to remember the 40 odd members of the Independent Labour Party who fought alongside George Orwell on the Aragon front is to be unveiled on May 30th at 2.00pm in the Reading Room of the Working Class Movement Library at 51 The Cresent, Salford, Manchester M5 4WX (tel 0161 737 4115).

The unveiling will be conducted by two surviving veterans from the period. Sydney Robinson who was active as an ILP member in Newport organising 'Aid Spain' meetings and fund raising. Also Roma Marquez Santo, one of the last surviving members from the POUM Lenin Column who left Barcelona in the summer of 1936 will also attend the event.

We would like to welcome all those who wish to celebrate the history of these relatively unknown 'Premature Anti-Fascists' and the tortured relationships between the ILP, POUM and Communist party during this period and to address and understand the divisions of that time.
