Mayday in London

Doug | 02.05.2009 06:33 | Repression

London Mayday does not draw the numbers it used to a few years back, when thousands roamed the streets. The spirit of Mayday was still there though at The Bank, with a Maypole and dancing and some familiar faces from the past.

The theme this year was police repression and in keeping with its anti-authoritarian Mayday tradition the cops were derided by megaphone as they looked on from a distance, instead of trying to surround and contain everyone as they have done in the past. Maybe they held back because the gathering was on an island and not obstructing road traffic or maybe they have learned a valuable lesson from the recent G20 in London.

The dancing was led by three sound systems, two of them on cycle trailers. There was several fancy dresses with either a convict/police/arrestee theme or pagan style theme. One small group even brewed up tea over an open log fire!

Thanks to the Space Hijackers for organising the event and all who attended to make it so much fun.

Which is the real Space Hijackers' website?

02.05.2009 10:23

 http://www.spacehijackers.CO.UK/html/welcome.html
or
 http://www.spacehijackers.ORG/html/welcome.html

Maybe they've just changed their url, but I wouldn't want to be caught out by a fake copy site set up by you know who...

Surely...

... posting the registration details of the registered domain owner isn't a bright thing to do?? (Mind you, you would have thought the owner would have opted out).

As far as I can see, both are domain names pointing to the same website and are legit spacejackers sites.

I must admit though, I've always felt uncomfortable with those that use .co.uk and .com domain names...

anyone on the internet can check the details of a website by going to  http://ping.eu and do a "whois".

people should know both when they want to check out a website before they trust it, or make their own website that these details can be found by anyone, literally anyone!

and i agree .co and .com stand for "company". spacehijackers is not a company though!

without going of topic, nice photos. looks like it was a good atmosphere!

You can't opt out.

I think you will find that you can't opt out from '.org' WHOIS but you can from '.org.uk'.

Is there a higher resolution picture of the FIT?

It appears that one of the officers in the pciture does not have shoulder numbers. Now, this may not be the case. It may be failing eyesight. It is the officer on the right hand end standing off from the main group. It simply appears he has no numbers because his shoulderpieces look grey.

Might be fading eyesight, but it would be nice for him to step forwards and identify himself to the public. You know, calm the fears of a few skittish and vulnerable old coots who cannot really see too well.

couldn't help but notice the 9/11 "truth" banner. why these idiots are tolerated is beyond me.
