LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY – THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!
DEMONSTRATE AGAINST BRITAIN ’S RACIST IMMIGRATION LAWS
Outside the UK Immigration Service Communications House
210 Old Street, London , EC1V 9BR
(nearest tube – Old Street )
• To protest against mass deportations to northern Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Cameroons and elsewhere
• To campaign against all immigration controls. Britain is a wealthy country and has built that wealth by robbing the poor of the world. It then turns on those who come from poor countries to seek asylum or a better life.
• To let the public know what Communications House is. The building looks anonymous but immigration reporting centres are places of fear for asylum seekers, who have to report to them monthly, weekly or even several times a week. Anyone who is detained will when reporting will be sent to a detention centre. Immigration Reporting Centres themselves are sufficiently prison-like to qualify for inspection by the Chief Inspector of Prisons (see http://inspectorates.homeoffice.gov.uk/hmiprisons/inspect_reports/STHF-reports/2007-Communications_House_f1.pdf)
• In solidarity with detainees in struggle against the system of detention and deportation. The road to detention in centres like Yarls Wood, Harmondsworth and Brook House often begins in a reporting centre like Communications House.
• In solidarity with migrant workers. In the days before the Communications House demo, we will be supporting the Latin American and African cleaners who have been sacked by Mitie and joining the contingent campaigning for rights and papers for all, not just amnesty for some on the 4 May ‘Strangers into Citizens’ demo. May Day is for the workers of the world who have nothing to lose but their chains – long live international solidarity!
