Stop the BNP in Cheshire tomorrow

uaf | 14.04.2009 14:50 | Anti-racism | Liverpool

The BNP are holding a meeting in Winsford, Cheshire tomorrow (15/04/09), join the counter-demonstration.

Unite Against Fascism
Protest Against the Cheshire BNP Rally
Tomorrow, Wed 15th April, 6.30pm

The BNP have called a meeting tomorrow evening (Wed. 15th April) in Winsford, Cheshire, to promote their campaign to win seats in the European Parliament elections on 4th June. Their leader, Nick Griffin, is likely to be speaking. Griffin has a criminal conviction for incitement to racial hatred; another BNP candidate, Martin Wingfield, has spent time in prison for race-hate.

The BNP is a fascist organisation that fights for 'an all-white Britain'. They could win seats under the proportional representation system in use for the 4th June elections. This success would be a massive boost for the Nazis' dream of respectability and acceptance in mainstream politics. It would be a setback for Asian and black people, and for all trade unionists and everyone who is against racism.

Two Things You Can Do To Stop This Nazi Rally:

1) Ring the venue, Winsford United club (postcode CW7 3EA) on 01606-558-447, to tell them they should not consider hosting a gathering of dangerous violent racists - and email the club secretary Roberts Astles on  robert-a@talktalk.net to insist, firmly but politely, that a sports club should not be helping racists and fascists like Griffin and Wingfield

2) Join the protest from 6.30pm at the club, called by Unite Against Fascism - meet 4.30pm at Piccadilly Station (under train indicator board) for train at 4.55pm, or 6.15pm at Winsford train station.

If travelling by car, leave M6 at Junction 18 and head west for Middlewich, along A54; go through Middlewich and stay on A54, heading for Winsford - take care to take a left fork in between the two towns, to stay on A54; shortly after the left fork, go past Winsford train station and take second exit from roundabout to leave A54 and join B5355 Station Road; turn left into Rookery Rise (it's a crescent, so enter at either end). NB Probably better to park discreetly near/ at Winsford train station and walk the last bit - don't leave UAF leaflets etc visible in your car, just in case.

Thanks for your support in the campaign to stop the fascist BNP

Stop the BNP doing what?

14.04.2009 15:51

Why are so many 'anti-fascists' afraid of everyone freely hearing what the BNP has to say?

I won't be going to this BNP meeting and I won't be voting BNP, but I do find it odd that some people feel the need to stop the BNP saying what it wants to whovever it wants.

It is obvious to me that the people who choose to disrupt BNP meetings are convinced that the BNP's message could appeal to many people. Their response to this is to stop people hearing this message.

By their actions these 'anti-fascists' demonstrate their contempt for free speech and democracy.

They aren't really anti-fascist at all. They are fascists.

The BNP are not only a racist party but an incredibly dangerous one.

The reason to stop them is because they appeal to ordinary people who are fed up of the incompetent 3 mainstream parties,

All the literature they use to promote their "non racist beliefs" is cleverly worded as to appeal to the biggest demographic without rocking the boat.

The bnp are a deceitful party who will do everything within their power to seperate and divide Britain. Truth is they don't care about British nationals at all.

They are Nazi sympathisers, homophobes and last but not least racist

The mistakes the bnp have made are well documented on the internet, before you jump into the hands of liars and racist fools perhaps it would be better to do a little research!

By opposing the bnp you are not denying free speech you are voicing your own concern and showing that what the bnp are saying and planning to do is promoting lies and hatred.

The bnp are not the saviour they claim to be.

fascism

--> They aren't really anti-fascist at all. They are fascists.
i'd agree with this. There is even a terminology for it: Liberal Fascism. I'm not a fan of the BNP or a lot of other groups, but we have chosen to be a democracy. Protesting is ok, but 'stopping' the bnp from speaking is not really on.

Also, the implications to Nazis just sounds like a smear campaign. Nazi philosphy can probably best be understood through Mein Kampf which i don't see any of in what the BNP has said or written. So I think the Nazi labels are just the kind of incendary comment that people jump on without any understanding of what Nazi Germany stood for. Also, German Fascism has little to do with the BNP, it was more aligned with the state being a means for the Aryan race to realise its destiny. If anything, they are closer to Italian fascism which is completely different.

Personally, I think Liberal fascism (of the type shown in the post) although not so apparent, has shown that it is probably more dangerous in the UK in PRESENT times than anything else as an infringement to freedom of choice.

freedom to lie...

14.04.2009 18:40

yeh free speech is fantastic etc etc

so its cool to lie and mislead desperate people as well?

(which the bnp do, on a regular basis)

"the BNP are not a racist party" did anybody see the documentary about mark collet on channel 4 and the earlier one he did with russell brand?

did anyone see the bbc expose which showed nick griffin making jokes regarding his grandad dying at a concentration camp

the joke was

"i found out my grandad died at auschwitz, he got drunk and fell from his watch tower"

Side splitting,

they don't really publish this kind of stuff in their marketing literature...

why do people insist on defending this shit and criticise those who seek to attack it!

Why we must fight the BNP

14.04.2009 20:19

They only need 8% of the north-west vote in June to get a seat in the European Parliament, which would give them access to £250k with which to fund their activities - as often violent as otherwise - and an unprecedented amount of confidence with which to conduct them. Disrupting their campaign is an effective method of preventing this from happening - but contrary to the claims of UAF and the SWP, there has to be more to the fightback than just that and voter registration drives. People are increasingly disillusioned with the big 3 parties, and the fact is the BNP have successfully presented themselves to many people as being a counterweight to the neoliberalism of the ruling class. They often claim, for example, to stand against the privatisation of public services, or the gutting of the welfare state - the third prong of our fork must be to confront that facade directly, perhaps by pointing out their incriminating record of activity in councils they control; the fourth prong must be to provide a genuine alternative, maybe remind people that despite the general perception the Greens are not just environmentalists but also socialists, or organise independant candidates to stand on progressive platforms.

Free speech

14.04.2009 20:28

I also agree with what anon says about free speech - while its certainly a fundamental right, I'd say there were 2 exceptions: betrayal of someone else's personal privacy; and deliberate and malicious fabrication*

*note: the BNP's campaign material consists mostly of deliberate and malicious fabrication.

we're the asylum state

15.04.2009 08:18

Ok just because you dont believe in everything that a group or party says doesnt mean you should stop them saying it (unless they promote harm to others.)

No one is saying "go kill blacks" or shit like that. They want british jobs for british workers. All we've had over the last 10 years is a huge flow of people into our overcrowded country.

UAF need to be careful as once again, we all believe in a democracy, and freedom of speech, but trying your upmost to stop someone saying what they legally want to say its totally pointless and your creating just as many enemys as friends doing this.

Go guerilla gardening instead tonight.

british jobs for british workers

15.04.2009 10:24

..and what exactly is a "british job"? A job that was born in britain? A job that has lived in britain for at least 20years?

Fuck off with your racist shit.

exploitative, not british jobs are the norm.

there needs to be a balance

15.04.2009 11:51

They need to let people just say what they want. I dont have a problem with UAF having a point of view but i do have a problem with them trying to stop open debate and meetings. If a group wanted to try and stop the Black & Asian police associating meeting they would be called racist biggots!

Let people be and let them discuss what they believe in, or you'll look more extreme than they do.

More PC Fascism

15.04.2009 11:53

>> ..and what exactly is a "british job"? A job that was born in britain? A job that has lived in britain for at least 20years?

I think british jobs for british workers is just a saying Gordon Brown said. My interpretation is that it just means they want jobs for permanent residents rather than actively encouraging transient residents to move in.

Obviously, economics teachers us that immigration really doesn't have a major effect on employment figures in general terms. But people forget that there are localised hotspots where it is having a big effect. British workers (that is people with citizenship) who are unable to find jobs in a severe downturn have understandable reason for frustration if they see a refinery use cheap foreign labour.
You could argue about EU membership blah-blah, but I don't think many british people really voted in for that in the first place.

Liberal fascism like shouting 'racist, racist, racist' with you hands over your ears to bully these people's genuine concerns out of a discussion shows a fundamental lack of how people will behave. Its just a PC way of sweeping people's worries under the carpet and showing you don't give a sh** about them. So whats options are left for these people if they are ignored by the liberal fascists but listened to by the bnp fascists?
