Police watchdog admits Ian Tomlinson CCTV error
CCTV footage of the events leading up to the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests in London may exist, the police watchdog has admitted.

The chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which is investigating the death of the 47-year-old, had previously insisted there was no CCTV footage available.

Speaking on Channel 4 news on Thursday April 9th, Nick Hardwick had said: "We don't have CCTV footage of the incident... there is no CCTV footage, there were no cameras in the location where he was assaulted."

However, a statement from the IPCC on Tuesday acknowledged that there were cameras in the surrounding area.

The IPCC has launched its own investigation into Mr Tomlinson's death after video footage obtained by the Guardian newspaper showed him being pushed to the ground by a Metropolitan police officer.

The video, which also appeared to show the newspaper vendor being struck by a police baton, contradicted earlier claims from Scotland Yard that Mr Tomlinson had not come into contact with officers.

Minutes after the filmed incident, Mr Tomlinson died from a heart attack. A post-mortem showed he had died of natural causes, but a second autopsy has been requested by the IPCC.

"We continue to appeal for more information, including any other video footage," said IPCC commissioner and deputy chair Deborah Glass.

"Clearly there were a lot of people in the area when this incident happened and we still need people to contact us with any information or images they have of Mr Tomlinson."
