Newcastle No More Police Violence Protest
keith | 10.04.2009 10:12 | Repression
A protest against the death of Ian Tomlinson and the growing use of violent tactics by police against protesters will take place 1 pm Saturday 11 April, Grey's Monument, Newcastle
The shocking death of Ian Tomlinson and the common use of kettling and baton charges against peaceful protesters has outraged and angered the country. Lots of different groups are coming together on Saturday to publicly state their revulsion against these police tactics and demand justice for the family of Ian Tomlinson.
Stop the War have done the organising but it looks as though it will not be a sectarian newspaper selling event and everyone who has been upset by the awful events last week should consider attending.

I can tell you right now it is an absolute certainty that STWC will do everything in their power to diffuse people's anger at this protest just as they did at the Birmingham Gaza protest back in January. What happened there was no accident, they are highly trained in "crowd control", if you want to stop this from happening then you will have to plan ahead.
I would hate to find that the same thing has happened, so talking from personal experience here is what I recommend. Get a group of you together and bring your own megaphones and video cameras. As soon as they try and channel people's energies into pointless meetings, chants, petitions, or lobbying of MPs then they need to be challenged. Their purpose is to hijack things for their own political ends. You have to stop them! Boo them right out of town and tell the crowd what they should really be doing!
