A Mayday protest of the metropolitan police

Flyer
Flyer

Our civil liberties and human rights are infringed upon daily, by the politicians in charge they are seen as little more than obstacles to overcome. The police have proven that they cannot stop abusing the anti-terrorism powers they have been given yet they want more, and within the metropolitan police is a culture that has...
* led to deaths in the past
* made where people go into police vans without a scratch on them and come out covered in bruises the norm
* created abuses of terrorist powers where people are kept for several days without charge and released in other parts of the country with no money and no phone
* made it so that they will lie to the media, to the government, and to the public to cover up their crimes

That is why on Mayday at 2pm we will be moving our protest from Trafalgar to outside the offices of New Scotland Yard at, we have 5 demands:

1 - A criminal investigation into the death of Ian Tomlinson and the immediate suspension of the officer responsible for his death
2 - An immediate ban of kettling by every police chief across the country and for government to subsequently make it illegal
3 - A Royal Commission into the policing of the recent protests and the abuse of anti-terrorism powers used prior to and during the protests
4 - An immediate end to the London wide application of section 44. The city houses 8 million and has millions more working and visiting every day, why are we all suspects?
5 - For Paul Stephenson to stand down from his position of head of the metropolitan police, he is new to the position but the buck lies with him for perpetuating the current injustices and culture within the met. The protests, the policing, the lies, the cover up, etc... all occurred under his watch and he must take ultimate responsibility.

Be safe people

really bad timing!!

Thats the same day as Smash EDOs street party. This is a great idea, but a bad day to do it. It'll split people on a day when we may need to defend ourselves from even more violence from cops.

Fabbri

rushed and divisive?

This demo has been called on the same day as the Anti-arms trade EDO carnival, called by the Smash EDO campaign, which seeks to highlight police brutality and corruption in dealing with the campaign, and which large numbers will be seeking to attend from across the country..
poor choice of date..

Kettled...

08.04.2009 22:55

Thats just going to be one massive kettle (hopefully not massive). Smash EDO is having a demonstration in Brighton for Mayday, It should be far more effective and fun.

I don't want to get caught in a walking kettle for hours then have all my photograph and details forcibly taken and a bright light shone in my face thank you very much. If anyone else feels the same as me, go to Brighton!

We're not going to demand anything. We are going to take and occupy.

Making demands leaves power intact. What is the point in reforming policing when the existence of all life on the planet is threatened by the international capitalist states. Your demands seem to imply that baton charges, cavalry charges, CS gas attacks, rubber bullets, dawn raids are ok. Mayday is May1st. Back to the Bank until power is dissolved. All power to the window makers!

No hope by official channels.

There is no point in trying to achieve change via the official channels as these are behind the repressive Police in the first place.

Last week, you will recall the talk of, "This is the New World Order". This is no coincidence and what it is all about. The behaviour of the Police is the start of things to come. It is given tacit approval by those in power and their masters. It will become more extreme in due course.

You would be better reading a certain book written by Che Guevara.

Can anyone build guillotines?

nice flyer but it takes more to organise a protest than to make a flyer, as other people have pointed out clashes, demands etc.

Also Trafalgar Square is the place the police have possibly the most experience in in London of containing & controlling people, so bad place to meet!

Maybe you are part of a group, though that's not clear, which makes it easier to successfully call protests, and crucially to organise them, but publicity on it's own isn't enough!

nice butt

Please change the date - from Smash EDO

10.04.2009 16:05

Smash EDO has had a demo planned on Mayday for months (www.smashedo.org.uk/mayday-09.htm). Having this demo in London on the same day will divide us and undermine both demos

any chance of changing it - and we'll come
