Several thousand Anti - NATO Protesters gathered in Strasbourg this weekend.
Groups from several countries gathered to protest against NATO policy,
which in many eyes is spirally out of control.

With an International Camp of resistance set up south of Strasbourg main airport, demonstrators
were able to successfully co-ordinate a series of well executed protests across the entire city.

With the city centre split into two separate Security Zones, access and day to day normal life for residents and protester alike was severely hampered, with a massive security operation, road blocks and police checks
On resident, who had been previously issued security passes to come and go about the centre.

Inevitably there was amongst those, a hard-core element, who wished to cause destruction and chaos
But in the main the bulk of the protests were peaceful, which, after all is the whole point of an Anti -Nato protest.
Why resort to non-productive, violent action, when the very purpose of this is to oppose NATO both in word and in action.

Of course, NATO will be brought crashing down by a few banners and a sit down protest??

Any effective protest will be dealt with violently by the state and their police, and it is no good waving your hands in the air and hoping that they dont hurt you. If what you are doing challenges them, non-violent protest will be crushed.

Nobody wants to be injured or imprisoned, but confrontation is essential if we are serious about bringing these institutions down. You may not be prepared to take those risks yourself, but please do not criticise those who do have the courage to fight.

incredulous

Futile

These anarchist antics are pointless and are only allowed because of the democratic system. The police and military could easily crush them mercilessly but don't because we recognise the right of people to free speech and to demonstrate.

We didn't see much anarchist action in the old Soviet Empire where the police and military didn't have to consider such niceties.

I suppose it's an exciting day out for hot-headed students and their pals though. A certain proportion of middle class kids have always regarded such high jinx as part of growing up and always will.
