The "Kettle" is best known for having been used in the May Day protests at Oxford Circus in 2001, after which it became the subject of a civil action, brought by one of those contained and only finally resolved by the law lords (in the police's favour) in January this year.

This intimidatory and inflammatory tactic used by the police can leave those participating in legal protest to be effectively imprisoned on the street for hours on end. The results of this and the implications upon our freedom to protest are plain to see.

How can such heavy handed policing of law abiding citizens be right in a so called democracy?

Human fear leads to fight or flight. With no option to run this technique encourages violent protest. The kettle will boil.

please sign the petition to stop the use of the kettle.

independent petition

I was about to sign until I realised that my details would then be in the hands with people in the government.. would it not have been a better idea to set up an independent petition to be presented to Government..

...that there were other fears worth facing so I didnt bother.
Why let the kettle bother you - if you are proactive then you dont need to boil - rather you breathe.
Forsake the way of holey protest and get empowered to be proactive - lack of protest makes for creative juices that make things happen. Reflect that you are reactionary and give in to alternative ways of demonstrating that peace is bullshit when it is laced with whingeing.

Be loving the resistance, be hating the angst inherant in protest - dont much care what others thinnk or whether they approve.

Love has higher goals.

Kettle the MET

07.04.2009 07:31

Disposing of your old kettle in an environmentally friendly way is difficult. Since the police seem to like kettles so much help them out by sending your old kettle to:

Metropolitan Police Service
New Scotland Yard
Broadway
London
SW1H 0BG

Pass the idea on to anyone you know who has an old kettle they want to get rid of or who wants to protest against police tactics.

Health and Safety Issue

Those scalded by a kettle in the Police Officers' workplace might well consider asking the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the dangers of Kettles in the working environment.

Seems you can prosecute plod for Health and Safety but not for killing people.
