So much is lost with the news-wire

In my own name | 03.04.2009 19:49 | Indymedia

So much opportunity to comment and discuss issues are lost because of the daily scrolling newswire on the right-hand side of the site.

The conversations get lost and this is quite a tremendous closure on possible lines of connection with other like minds. Is there anyway that Indymedia UK can address this, so that discussions can be followed over time, rather than trying to find the right page once it has scrolled into the archive?

Thanks for any thoughts from designers and coders. This is not a feature of Indymedia.org.uk - it is a bug. Please can someone correct.

Using an RSS reader (such as google reader) helps a lot. Subscribe to the newsfeed.
Plus you can see all the articles that get censored by indymedia which can be helpful

pseudonymity is another much-needed feature

Indymedia seems full of trolls, cops and other malcontents who can post their own corporate bullshit and cop-loving posts as any name they please.

I think Indymedia needs some kind of optional account system so we can at least see how trustworthy a poster is based on their previous posts.

The current system of trusting people to be genuine when every single post and comment is totally independently anonymous is just too naive and open to abuse by our enemies.

We should still allow anonymous posts, but at least we would have the option of hiding them or flagging them in some way seeing as they would be mostly crap.
