Different cities

To be fair to all the London protestors, London today is a different problem from Seattle, or even London during the Poll Tax. Cameras and CCTV, and the increase in surveillance and erosion of civil liberties change the playing field.

things have moved on

Also police were faced with 70,000 demonstrators of a wide variety of stripes, from various trade unions to anarcho groups from Eugene, and they freaked. They had no plan. They were on like 15 hour shifts and totally lost the plot. So it may be nice to reminisce about such cozy times, but things have moved on in terms of police tactics, as the past two days attest. And so we should move on and think seriously about tactics.
