Evening Standard spreads scare story lies about the G20 protests.

G20 protester | 01.04.2009 23:25

The Evening Standard has today come up with a fake story about hundreds of anarchist planning to storm banks in the City of London. See this.  http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23669181-details/Anarchists+planning+to+storm+City+banks/article.do
They claim to have infiltrated meetings over the past few days at the Rampart in Whitechapel.

The only plans for the G20 protests in the City of London are a mass climate camp and a mass street party. There are no plans at all for any storming of any buildings. That story by the Evening Standard is a complete lie.

Complaints should be made to the press complaints commission about this fabricated story.

Why don't the organizers do this...

...write to the Evening Standard? The ES have a nigh on legendary reputation of doing dodgy "undercover" investigations of 'subversive' scenes in London. Usually we all just laugh them off, but if you're concerned, set them straight. Basically, the ES is just a tabloid in imitation designer footwear and they know it, so if the rampart collective sends them an intelligible and levelheaded reply, they ought to accept it for publication - because that's what the papers are obliged to do when they slander an organization in public, no?

How many times can they recycle this story? So they had a hack in a meeting, but now he will just be changing the date of the proposed bank storming (orignially yesterday, now today) any time they are short of copy.

Given that...

...there are postings on Indymedia saying "We stormed the banks! We won", photos of RBS being smashed up, articles titled "Storm the Banks", photos of people holding posters before the event with "Storm the banks" in big red letters, and so on, this might be one of those curious occasions when the Evening Standard got a story right.
