Members of the Nottingham Anti-Heckler & Koch Campaign Visited Germany earlier this month.

Invited by the German anti-militarist and their campaign against the activities of Heckler & Koch at their 60th anniversary, we were made to feel most welcome.

We went on the mission via eurostar, and the french 'fast' trains. These of course put our own railway networks in the shade :-( Thus it becomes sensible to travel by them, as an obvious alternative to air travel.

Freiburg is a university town in southern Germany. Aside from the quaint medieval buildings they are noted for making a better effort than most, in alternative energies, solar and wind etc. The hostel we stayed at, generated its own electricity by a junior hydo-electic plant in the stream out the back. The centre of town was large pedestrian area with a huge tram network. Only really saw cars used around the rush hour. I hope to show you the preference there for cycling. There was plenty of provision for them on the roads. Also, plenty of parking and storage arrangements, and hire appeared quite cheap and easy. I guess I show you this lot, to point fingers at our own efforts, in the average town and city here :-(
