Invade Jersey Now! Mark Thomas at the MoD, London

Peter Marshall | 18.03.2009 17:18 | Anti-militarism

Around a dozen demonstrators protested outside the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday lunchtime (17 March) calling for a British invasion of Jersey, and the recover of the deeds of the war office from that tax haven. Most of the visitors and workers going in and out of the building refused to take the leaflets Mark Thomas was handing out, though some were amused. This was the third in a series of demonstrations organised by  http://www.markthomasinfo.com/ Mark Thomas aimed at the ridiculous situation that many of the buildings which our government departments are housed in no longer belong to us but are owned by companies whose profits go to offshore tax havens.

Recently Barclays have hit the news for their extensive measures taken to avoid paying UK tax - and Barclay's Private Equity own the Treasury Building. The Home Office is owned by HSBC Infrastructure in Guernsey and today's target, that Orwellian-named Ministry of Defence is half owned by John Laing which avoids most UK tax by basing itself in Jersey and Ireland.

Thomas called on the UK to invade Jersey for six great reasons:
it's on the way home from Iraq; it's a war we could win; there are no US troops involved so casualties would be low; Prince Henry could wear his Nazi uniform and scare the crap out of them; the islanders are used to occupation and of course that Jersey has at least at many WMDs as Saddam ever did.
