(Latest news from a long series of protests and hunger strikes that started in Lampedusa and spread to other immigration prisons in Italy)
No sign that tension is decresing at the Centre for Identification and Expulsion (CIE) in Corso Brunelleschi in Turin: the lenghtening of detention to 6 months (previously two, NdT) and the 'normal' daily abuses trigger new protests every day. Monday 16th March police in riot gear with dogs and truncheons entered the 'red' section, threatening assaults and beatings. THE DETAINEES FEARED FOR THE WORST AND GOT ON THEIR MOBILE PHONES, CALLING THE ANTI-RACISTS. After a quick round of sms lots of phone calls arrived to reception, from many persons who do not appreciate these prisons for migrants and who support the struggles of the sans papiers who are there detained.
The 'red' section is that of the three Tunisians who Saturday avoided deportation by means of cutting their arms or swallowing objects. One of them is now in prison because, despite his injuries, tried to conquer is freedom by escaping from the ambulance that was taking him to hospital. The third man is ill, because after X rays and the promise of an operation to removed the objects swallowed, was taken back to the deportation centre and left without care.
The search was over a few hours later, with no results: they just wanted to scare the migrants and maybe put their hands on the video sent yesterday to the anti-racists. In the video is possible to see one of the prisoners in a pool of blood in the courtyard of the deportation centre.
During the search, in another section a boy made a rope and tried to hang himself, another has not been eating for two days: he has been detained for two months and two days ago he should have been freed. The new rule allows the Italian State to detain him for another four months.
