Stop The War g20 Demo April 1st - lame picket of US Embassy

Razamov | 13.03.2009 13:27 | G20 London Summit | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements

"The leaders of the world’s big powers will meet at the G20 summit in London on 2 April.
It is Barack Obama’s first visit to Britain. It is our chance to demand a change from Bush’s war policies."

Hence a lame picket of the US Embassy in Grosvenor Sq on April 1st. Talk about not really taking the opportunity for something better.

They are also planning a demo on April 2nd - 'We will also be protesting on Thursday 2 April at the G20 summit, 11am at the Excel Centre'. Further details to be announced one presumes.

Most of the g20 focus so far has been on April 1st with the g20 Meltdown actions and the Climate Camp protests, both in The City. It will be interesting to see what Stop The War comes up with for April 2nd at Excel. They will also be under pressure from the police not to go too near the Excel Centre.

Another long demo is organised by the Socialist Party on April 2nd that's scheduled to arrive at Excel at 5pm.

As for the more radical plans, it seems the actual April 2nd Excel focus is somewhat chaotic. Maybe that's for the best.

Stop The War? 'Stop Effective Dissent' more like

13.03.2009 13:37

Typical of the STWC - just like when people were mobilizing for mass direct action at fairford airbase where the B52 were doing bombing runs on Iraq, the STWC organised stupid fucking marches on the same days.

The STWC is clearly in bed with the state and exists to divert dissent down pointless ineffectual paths.

outraged

The point of marches?

Funny, I didn't see many people criticising the big Palestine demos recently organised by STWC that turned into riots. It seems that many on here don't seem to judge a demo as effective unless it becomes a riot. Am I wrong?

none of the "rioters" where stwc .

i was there i saw with my own eyes.

hardly a riot

stw are annoying swp front dicks. boring and very effective at preventing meaningful resistance time and time again

their stewards on marches spend more time playing police than helping the protesters. fucking jobs worth

ballz

more violent than us, far more bloodthirsty & treacherous, far more, almost as bad as nazis sometimes, we arent like that, come on.The police were ordered to kettle the Gaza demo, lets not get sucked in. Effective shutting down of G20 & criticising Obama etc for following OIL,kissinger,Brezinski,Rockefellere lobby with a big party would be a best effort for us.
Not all stewards were SWP, many were non alligned +CND, come on. We need to be more organised & have a indymedia-schnews sheet to hand out as well as do effective fun demos, + theres nothing wrong with organising afew coaches with a minbus back up for arrest, come on.
