HLS collaborators and arms trade targeted in the south

We started our day of mobile demos at a regional Barclays Bank office, Barclays House 20/24 Upper Market Street, Eastleigh, Hampshire, SO50 9FD. This location is really good, right in the centre of the town of Eastleigh next the the town's bus terminal and taxi rank. We gave out hundreds of leaflets and many people vowed to close their accounts in this sick, greedy company. At one point the Barclays manager came out to say that he understood why we were there and that he would contact his head office and tell them he didn't support Barclays investment in HLS.

We then moved up to Basingstoke, our first stop here was Cardinal Health, The Crescent, Jays Close, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG22 4BS. This sight is really good for demos and as a company that has large contracts with HLS they were well worth the visit. Our 3 megaphones let everyone know why we were there and what crimes Cardinal Health are involved in at HLS.

This location is really sick company central so we then popped around the corner to visit the sick equipment supplier Steris, Jays Close, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG22 4BS. These guys not only supply HLS but also Oxford Uni and pretty much any sick and twisted company that abuses animals for profit. Again a really great demo, letting all their neighbours know what Steris do, amazingly enough Steris had not been telling them. Well Steris everybody knows now.

As this is really sick central there is a company called ITT Defence (parent company of EDO MBM) who are the subject to a huge anti arms campaign in Brighton UK. These guys supplied many of the weapons systems dropped recently on the people of Gaza so we thought we would pop by and have a quick loud solidarity demo against them. The police riot van blocking their entrance was a good sight indeed.

Next up was AXA in central Basingstoke near the station, AXA, Winterthur Way Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 6SZ. This massive sprawling sight is well worth a visit, especially as not only are AXA a major shareholder in the NYSE they now have 10,000 shares directly in HLS/LSR. A great demo as the workers were beginning to head home. Towards the end of the demo the site manager came out and said he didn't work for AXA and he completely agreed with us. He even said he would try and sort out a meeting between us and AXA over their bloody dealings with HLS. Unfortunately we doubt he will achieve his aim, but good on him for trying and guess we will have to wait and see.

The last demo of the day was at the large Barclays offices right in the centre of town: Barclays Mercantile Business Finance Ltd, Churchill Plaza, Churchill Way, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 7GP, we arrived just as all the workers were heading home and we were able to give virtually ever worker a leaflet. This tower block is in a great location, their security guard is great, he uses very colourful language and he even decided to get his own megaphone out to try and drown us out with the siren. Sadly for him his small megaphone was no match for are 3 big megaphones and all he seemed to do is make our demo even more unmissable. Barclays 400,000 blood shares in murder we will be back again and again until HLS (LSR) are no more.

A great day 5 SHAC demos and 1 anti arms/war demo, a good day and we will certainly be back.

SMASH EDO + HLS!

13.03.2009 12:11

Nice to see some cross campaign pollination. And they call us single issue...

It's a shame the title of this article doesn't mention the arms trade demo, as I am sure many people who would be interested in this may not even bother looking at the post :-(

Until every cage is empty - until every bomb is decommissioned.

Smash EDO, Smash HLS!
