A LITANY OF HORSE HORRORS



In Afghanistan, horses
are burned and blown
apart by bombs from drones,
cruise missiles, daisy cutters.

At a Kentucky racetrack, a horse
breaks her leg..
it hangs by a tendon
from her knee.. she is
one of tens of thousands
so injured She is shot,
for animals unlike humans
have rights unrecognized.

works to end the trip
wiring of horses
in Hollywood and
around the world

In Spain, Portugal,
Mexico and other Latin
American countries,
horses are gored
by terrorized bulls
in barbaric bullfights.

In France, horses
hang upside down
at a slaugterhouse

In Alaska horses overworked
leap over mountain cliffs
committing suicide to avoid
the thirst, the hunger,
the heat, the cruelty of
forced labor

In the Civil War and thousands
of other wars, millions?
of horses were gored, shot,
killed for food

In Lancaster Pennsylvania
the New Holland Sales
and Stables sells
39% of its horses
for slaughter

A horse was blinded
in the film Equus
for 'artistic effect'
by the director.

In New York's Central Park,
taxis and cars and trucks
regularly slam into
carriage horses.

Fox hunters in Virginia and
those in steeplechases
regularly break horse legs
as they force run them
through potholes, cause
them to fall hard on ice,
careen down hillsides.

Donkeys are abused
around the world as
'beasts of burden'.

Horses have died of hunger,
died of thirst, died of
cold in filthy barns with
urinesoaked piles which
were once hay.

Horse racing 'owners'
move horses from 1 home to
dozens of others.
Some die of loneliness.
Others live lives of quiet
despair.

Race horses are subjected
to poisoning and hobbling
injuries by competitors.

Horses die

.. captive to
human greed

In the imperialist British
blood sport of 'pigsticking'
human 'beaters' forced wild
pig herds out of the trees
into groups of mostly men
on horseback. Horses' legs
as well as the beaters'
were often severed by the
sharp as razor boar tusks.

Wild mustangs have often
been rounded up and sent
to slaughterhouses in Texas.
