Nottingham animal rights demonstrate against cruise to adopt an anti fur policy

Mártin the livewire | 01.03.2009 16:40 | Animal Liberation

Nottingham Animal Rights were demonstrating in front of Cruise clothing store today to encourage the chain to adopt an anti fur policy.

We had a great response from the public who were happy to take leaflets and sign our petitions to show there disgust with real fur. Even the manager of the shop was sympathetic and asked could he have a photo of us all to send to his HQ to let them know his shop was being targeted as part of the nationwide campaign aimed at Cruise's fur policy, in the hope that it would help persuade them to take up the anti fur policy.

Although the Nottingham branch, it has to be said, does not stock fur this was part of a larger campaign up and down the country in support of other groups (whose local outlets unfortunately do stock real furs), to show our solidarity with animal rights and anti fur campaigners up and down the country to show that cruise will be demonstrated against until they adopt an anti fur policy.

The demonstration in Nottingham was peaceful and went without incident with great response from the public.

Maybe you are being a bit naive?

Asking for photos is quite common, as it is head office that has the final decision in these things, so evidence that supports the managers complaint is useful in getting them to change policy.

well whats the worst he can do with the photos? give them to the police who probs hav photos of alot of us anyway? i mean they're not hard to get.... i uploaded two here. i get what your saying he seemed genuine and when police did show he told them he had no problem with us bein there. and to be fair the shop we held the demo at had no fur in anyway. but point taken

'This shop supports the bloody fur trade' ?

02.03.2009 00:17

Shouldn't that read "This shop doesn't support the fur trade, but other shops in the company do"?

Not really, financially that shop supports the fur trade no matter what the manager’s personal views on fur are.

nope.... we was right the first time

understand were ur comin from but money you spend at cruise in nottingham goes to a company sell fur... so your money even at a branch that may not have fur in (at the moment) still goes to the real fur industry because cruise are a real fur retailer.... so all of their stalls support the fur trade and so does the money that people spend there

It's heartening to see people are prepared to do this, and that the public response was good.
