A public meeting commemorating martyrdom of Maqbool Bhat, a socialist Kashmiri freedom fighter and leader and screening of a short documentary, Che of Kashmir, based on his life and cause.
Maqbool Butt, popularly known as Shaheed-E-Kashmir (Kashmir's martyr), was a socialist kashmiri freedom fighter who fought and sacrificed his life in the struggle for an independent, secular, and socialist Kashmir. Since his execution in February 11, 1984 oppression against Kashmiris, by the Indian and Pakistani state, has further intensified and so has the popular resistance against it.
The public meeting commemorating Maqbool Butt's martyrdom will be discussing Maqbool Butt's contribution to the Kashmiri movement and its present day and relevance besides current political situation in Kashmir and how can we organise a solidarity movement here in the UK. The meeting will also screen a short documentary, Che of Kashmir, on his life.
Venue: The Drum, 144 Potters Lane, Aston, Birmingham B6 4UU
Date/Time : 2-5pm, Sunday 1st March 2009
