Nottingham Cyclists Beware!

Cyclist | 24.02.2009 11:48

Just a little word of warning for cyclists in Nottingham

I got caught riding my bike in front of the Lions on the Market Square last week. I was going very slowly, slowly enough for the Community Protection Officer to catch up with me without breaking stride. I received an on-the-spot £30 fine. I agree with the law that says that cyclists shouldn’t ride on the pavement, yet feel that the CPOs that seem to be permanently camped at the foot of the stairs of the Council House should exhibit a little common sense and let minor indiscretions slide. Don’t get caught out like me. It’s an opportunity for the council to make a quick buck. Don’t give them that chance.

Sadly this is typical of cyclists

Always the first to complain about the behaviour of other road users when they're the first to jump red lights, ride over pelican crossings when in use etc etc., but God forbid someone should actually take you to task about riding on the pavement. You even knew it was illegal, so stop whingeing, pay the fine and ride your bike on the road where it belongs. Frankly I hope the cops start doing more of this sort of thing where I live too. Bring it on.

Don't want to get fined? Then don't ride on the pavement - it's hardly rocket science.

Three cheers for free speech!

My original retort to this post has been removed for some reason? I wonder if this is because I dared to suggest that this person has no grounds for complaint over his/her fixed penalty ticket because s/he was breaking the law and knew it?

Ho hum, one of the Indymedia moderators is a cyclist then... expect this to disappear fairly quickly as well. Looks like this site will defend your right to say what you like, as long as the moderators agree with it too.
