A 14 year old high school student in Wisconsin will appear in court on a misdemeanor charge on 20th April, after being arrested for texting in her maths class.

Raw Story reports that a 14 year old Wisconsin high school student was arrested for refusing to stop texting in her maths class.

The police report states that: The School Resource officer at Wauwatosa East High School was asked to go to room 242 and remove a student who refuses to stop texting on her phone during class, The student... is known to me and the administration based on prior negative contacts."

The student was arrested for 'disorderly conduct' and given a £298 dollar fine. When asked to hand over the phone she, (good on her) refused to 'stand up and be searched'.

She denied that she had the phone and it was only recovered after the body search. The body search was conducted after the officer "had observed that the zipper on [name deleted]'s pants was down," and that "she squirmed in her chair keeping her hands in her lap," while he interviewed her. The phone was retrieved by a female officer 'from her buttock area'. Quite why a police officer is 'observing' the crotch of any 14 year old girl they encounter professionally or otherwise, is but one of the many questions that this incident should raise.

And here's the best bit.... she was 'arrested more for her behaviour than for the texting', and was told by the police that she was being arrested for 'not telling the truth'.
