WHO IS ALBERT WOODFOX OF THE ANGOLA 3

Posner | 14.02.2009 19:42

Celebrate Albert's Birthday

Albert Woodfox has spent the last 34 years in a 6’x 9’ cell. This is
solitary confinement in Angola Prison, Louisiana. Albert is one of the
Angola 3, along with Herman Wallace and Robert King. These 3 men have
survived immeasurable tragedies of injustice because of their political
beliefs and ability to organize from behind bars. Despite having his
conviction overturned by a Federal Judge this past year, Albert remains in
solitary. The Attorney General of Louisiana is ‘taking it personally’
pursuing a vicious vendetta against Albert, wasting hundreds of thousands
of tax payers dollars and time.

Awareness Birthday Party & Cake contest
For Albert Woodfox’s birthday we are asking Angola 3 Supporters around the
world to build awareness and broaden coalitions on Thursday February 19th,
Albert Woodfox’s 34th birthday in solitary confinement. Consider it a
party excuse to end the abuse. Ultimately, it will provide an opportunity
to bring people together, cultivate awareness, and show Albert Woodfox
that despite being in solitary confinement at Angola, he is never alone.
Angola 3 Action is hosting a creative cake contest judged by Herman,
Albert & Robert. The maker of the most creative cake will win some Angola
3 tshirts and bags.

aWEARness
The 19th will also be the first of the 36 Thursdays solidarity t-shirt
action. In an effort to cultivate aWEARness, A3a is asking supporters to
wear their “I am Herman Wallace or I am Albert Woodfox” T-shirts for the
next 36 consecutive Thursdays. Sign up here:
http://www.angola3action.org/interaction for Wednesday reminders. If you
dont have a shirt yet, you can order one here:
http://www.zazzle.com/Angola3Action ; a small portion of the proceeds goes
to Angola3Action New Orleans, so we can keep directing direct action.

If his conviction was overturned, why is he still in prison?

This article presupposes some previous knowledge of the case. It doesn't really tell us "who Albert Woodfox is", other than he is a prisoner.

What is he inside for? He could be a neo-Nazi for all we know.

And why is he still in prison if his conviction has been overturned?

no the post didn't really tell us much more about albert, or the case.
as i understand it, it was a federal decision to overturn his conviction
but the louisiana state prosecutors are ignoring it, and leaving him in prison....

there are lots of other websites where you could learn more about the angola 3 - just search!

I don't have time to research the story behind every post

I know I've probably spent more time complaining about the lack of background info than I would have spent looking for it, but I hope in the long run I am doing people a service by stressing the need to assume your reader knows nothing about what you are talking about.

If it makes people post more meaningful stories, maybe this comment will save thousands of hours of people's time in the future and make us more knowledgeable as well!

As it is, I'll never know who the "Angola 3" are or what they are in prison for, and I expect a lot of other people won't either.
