Student military 'competition' in SA

Student militarism once again works to glorify war whilst lightly skipping over lessons to be learnt.

So, this is fun, students who form part of 'Manchester and Salford Universities' Officer Training Corps' or MSUOTC for, erm, short, are currently in training for a 'military challenge' to be held in South Africa in April.

They will apparently be re-enacting the 'feats' of Boer War soldiers, who hauled artillery guns up a hill to soldiers under siege. This war game will be in competition with other military cadet sqauds.

Perhaps all the money that this is no doubt costing would be better spent educating students about the origins of the Boer War: about greedy, mindless empire building; about the seizing of land for its resources; and maybe the fact that during the Boer War the British incarcerated vast amounts of civilians in concentration camps and destroyed their farms.
