Boycott Trago Mills - fuck racism

Ivonna Crackasquat | 28.01.2009 13:30 | Anti-racism

For years now Trago Mills have been running racist articles in local newspapers. Here’s their latest, from the Falmouth Packet:

" 'For any cash-strapped Moslems reading this...
I have a potential money-spinner for you. On the quiet, with no public announcement whatsoever, the Labour government in December 2007 formally recognised multiple wives, as long as the ceremony took place in a country where polygamy is legal... Islamic law allows a man up to four wives (‘‘harem’’) and according to new guidelines from the Department of Work and Pensions: 'Where there is a valid polygamous marriage the claimant and one spouse will be paid the couple rate... The amount payable for each additional spouse is presently £33.65''... Income support for the 'harem' may be paid into the husband's bank account. He may also be in line for extra housing benefit and council tax benefit, reflecting the larger property needed for his family... Moslem readers may also be interested to know that there is a possible loophole where the man can divorce his wife under British law, continue living with her as his spouse under Islamic law, and then marry a new wife here in Britain, with everybody still claiming benefit. Please remember that bigamy is supposed to be a criminal offence in this country...Chris Grayling, Tory shadow minister, called this ''completely unjustifiable'', adding: ''this sets a precedent that will lead to more demands for the culture of other countries to be reflected in UK law.'' ... Mr. Grayling is right. But when a government embraces the lunacy of multiculturalism, the above is inevitable. Why are we so surprised?

In 1998 the ASA upheld readers' complaints against newspaper adverts for Trago Mills shopping centres in Devon and Cornwall after ads describing homosexuals as “poofters” saying the young should be protected from “this foul minority” were printed. The family who own the company openly support the UKIP.

Please write to the Falmouth Packet telling them this kind of racist crap is unacceptable, at  packet@packetseries.co.uk

For anyone wishing to complain here is mine..

Dear Sir/Madam,

I wish to complain about the racist and deceptive article in the Falmouth Packet aimed at "cash strapped Moslems" which claims that 'polygamous' Muslims can exploit 'loopholes'. The article states:-

"For any cash-strapped Moslems reading this, I have a potential money-spinner for you"
and "Moslem readers may also be interested to know that there is a possible loophole.."

Firstly, the author is making a racist verbal attack on "Muslim readers" by generalising and implying that ALL Muslims are dishonest and seeking out 'loopholes". The implication is also this 'opportunity' applies to ALL Muslims, and therefore all Muslims must have polygamous relationships, which is far from the truth. The article also states:-

"..The man can divorce his wife under British law, continue living with her as his spouse under Islamic law, and then marry a new wife here in Britain, with everybody still claiming benefit."

The deception here is that polygamous Muslims are unfairly benefiting from income support by receiving more money than other people. Whether you agree with polygamy or not, this is an outright lie. In such an instance they would actually be receiving less money in benefits than an equal number of individuals (who are not in a relationship) living in a shared house together, despite the living costs of both households theoretically being the same. To elaborate, Income Support recognises that couples living together can benefit from shared living costs, so provides them with less money than say two individuals who are living in a shared house. In other words, if Income Support did not recognise polygamous marriages, people in polygamous relationships would actually be able to claim far more money in benefits as the law would treat other 'harems' as individuals. The author has provided no evidence that this policy was sneaked through "on the quiet", and I cannot see how this can be the case since there is nothing in the least bit controversial about it. Next the article states:-

"Income support for the 'harem' may be paid into the husband's bank account."

This sounds unreasonable until you read this passage from the income support website:-

"If you live with your partner, only one of you can claim Income Support. This applies to both heterosexual and same-sex couples, regardless of whether you are married or in a civil partnership."

So, this rule applies to ALL couples (whether Muslim or non-Muslim), and the money could just as easily be paid into the 'harem's' bank account or a joint bank account.

Please can you respond with your thoughts on my criticism of this racist article, and explain why you are allowing such discriminatory material to be published.

Here is the response I received from the Packet Newspapers:-

Thankyou for your e-mail concerning the comment section in the Trago Mills advert in
the Packet newspaper of January 21. We always welcome the views of all our readers.
The article in question headed "cash strapped Moslems" written by David Challice of
UKIP does not, in our opinion, break any law or regulations and is Mr Challice's
personal point of view. Therefore I would refer all your enquiries to Mr Challice.
Once again thankyou for your interest.

Hmmm. Clearly they do not give a fuck about this as long as they are receiving their advertising revenues.
