Boycotts of Israeli produce around the world seems to be having an effect, as Israeli fruit growers now admit that the action is beginning to have a negative effect on their trade. Farmers told the Israeli news service Ynet that a great deal of produce is rotting in warehouses due to boycotts against Israeli produce, in countries such as Jordan, Britain and Scandinavia.

Calls for a boycott are as a direct result of the conflict in Gaza, where there have been around 1000 Palestinian deaths over the last three weeks alone, some 400 or so women and children. A further 4500 Palestinians are wounded. Yet Israel has incurred few casualties, which most of the world sees as a rather unfair, unnecessary and unbalanced fight. Wishing to show their disgust at Israel's behaviour, consumers are hitting Israel in the only way they can, by not buying their goods.

Our supermarket shelves are currently laden with Israeli fruit, vegetables and flowers. Products such as potatoes, avocadoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, Medjoul dates, gallia melons, sharon fruit (persimmon), peppers, chillies, oranges, pomegranates, sweetcorn, radishes and fresh herbs.

Supermarkets may be left with stock to sell cheaply to clear, if the boycott gains momentum.

It has also been reported today that AGREXCO have moved their European port operations from France to Italy in what is beleived to be a security move.
