Thousands gather in London to protest the ongoing blockade of Gaza a week after the impromptu withdrawal of the Israeli military from its neighbour.

The Israeli assault has left thousands dead, injured, homeless and dispersed. Much of Gaza itself has been destroyed leaving the Gazan people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

In the days leading up to the protest, the UK's DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) asks UK broadcasters to allot air time so an appeal can be made for help. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) refuse and veto the request inferring that its viewers may find the appeal partisan, thereby undermining the wider publics perception of the BBC's independence.

The following day, other UK broadcasters abandon the BBC to its position and decide to schedule the appeal anyway.

The BBC, throughout the Israeli assault on Gaza, have been widely criticised for the tone of its presentation.
