Julie Burchill: A fan of George Bush

On Sunday Julie Burchill wrote in the Sun about what a great president Bush had been.

There's a reply in today's Guardian:

(It links to burchill's article as well)

She was so bad when writing for the NME in the 1980's that I have ignored her since then, and I have no regrets :-)

Yucky Yuck Yuck

This is nothing new

Burchill was, is and always will be an attention seeking media whore. Nothing more, nothing less.

not a fan, but I quite enjoyed the Sun article

I'm not a fan of either Bush or Burchill, but I quite enjoyed the Sun article

I was provocative, sure, but I got the impression it was slightly tongue in cheek; an exercise in how convincingly you can pretend to defend the indefensible.

I think this quote says it all about the reasons for the article:

"Curiously, and somewhat hypocritically, he has been abused for both imaginary sins and real virtues.
... A crazed warmonger who, quite rightly, did not fight in America’s vile war against Vietnam."

Damning with faint praise? That was a sneaky below the belt hit! Especially since everyone know his non-participation in Vietnam wasn't through any political disagreement.
