A very noisey and boisterous gathering of people gathered after work yesterday to show solidarity with the people of occupied Palestine.

Newport Cenotaph has been the regular venue for peace vigils for many many years, when the UK government invaded Afghanistan there were regular vigils that increased in size as The War Against Terror (TWAT) intensified. Sadly due to a number of reasons, not least disagreements with local socialist sects led to the vigils tapering off.

There was a great deal of beeping of car horns in support and a number of young people who happened to be passing joinned the vigil for a short time. Police attention was minimal, but they did use the pretext of 'not wanting us to rush onto the junction' to come over and try and give the crowd a lecture, though they were drowned out by the constant chants and decided to go back and sit in their van until the demo was finished.

The gathering was as much a meeting as a demonstration, with the crowd deciding to return this friday, and every friday at 5pm. Please attend if you can.
