This was a very good turn out for a demonstration in Newport, especially considering it was only called earlier this week.

At the start of the march, Police kept the crowd off the road for a short distance before stopping the traffic and allowing the demonstration proceed into the city centre.

With chants of "Free Free Palestine" ringing out the crowd passed along the length of Commercial Road, through throngs of shoppers, down Skinner street and up Dock street before gathering for a rally in John Frost Square (named after the Chartist leader).

Whilst a variety of local politicians, representatives of community groups and religious clerics spoke to the crowd, activists distributed this week's SchNEWS and Palestine solidarity literature.
