Ashamed of your Arms Trade?

A partnership including Campaign Against the Arms Trade has launched a mobile phone recycling campaign that aims to make a dent in the British arms trade.

A partnership including Campaign Against the Arms Trade has launched a mobile phone recycling campaign that aims to make a dent in the British arms trade.

The Trust for Research and Education on the Arms Trade (TREAT) has joined up with Greener Solutions to offer you a more environmentally friendly way to dispose of your unwanted mobile phones. TREAT receives £2 for each recycled phone and will donate all proceeds to the Campaign Against Arms Trade's (CAAT) Research Programme.

The process won't cost you a thing – you simply need to send your phone/s off in a freepost envelope provided by CAAT.

CAAT fundraiser Sally Campbell says:

“This is a really practical way to bring much needed funds to CAAT while helping the protect the environment. We are looking forward to seeing the results from this new initiative.”

For more information or to order envelope/s:
email  sally@caat.org.uk or call 020 7281 0297.
Alternatively post your phones to:
TREAT, Greener Solutions, FREEPOST, LON17592, Mitcham, CR4 3UZ.

lets send off our mobiles to be recycled, or maybe a little direct action might help?

Great warriors lead from the front. So, on you go!

I guess taking on BAe Systems & DESO wasn't direct enough for you???

General Hypocrisy

A little less conversation?

What a strange comment. The two minutes it takes to post a mobile phone shouldn't hold up any direct action for longer than ooh, about two minutes.

2 questions tho'-
Do you just want the phone or the charger as well? Do CAAT still get the funds if I mail it directly or should I include a note?

Good question 20:22

And the honest answer is I don't know, but Sally does. You'll need to e-mail (see above) her to get your envelope anyway.

I've forwarded the query anyway and will respond here just to clarify.

Thanks!

Is this eco-spam?

17.01.2009 22:25

CAAT do a great job and it's great they have a fundraising initiative, but do we really need to see it as news here?

If every group posted their fundraising drives here, we would be swamped.

Sorry CAAT, but I think this falls into the category of "eco-spam" and I'm afraid it lowers my estimation of you. Let's keep Indymedia for news items.

(Not to mention recycling mobiles is really just greenwash, and they probably just get shipped off to China to poison some slave-labour kids trying to smelt out the precious metals, but I realise it's just a fundraiser...)
