CALLING FOR A CEASE FIRE IN GAZA AND PEACE BUILDING FOR THE PALESTINIANS AND ISRAELIS.

CAAB and York Palestinian Solidarity Committee are planning a gathering - at Menwith Hill at 1pm on TUESDAY 20 JANUARY, the day of the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the US.

We will write a letter/s (all encouraged)welcoming Barack Obama and his new administration to office and hand it in to Mary O'Brien (US base commander) for his attention.

Menwith Hill us the eyes and ears of the US. The US has persistently maintained an uncritical stance on Israel, is a major supplier of arms to Israel and has been obstructed an urgently needed ceasefire by abstaining at the last attempt by the UN Security Council.

While it would be naive to believe that Barack Obama alone can put the past to rights, this is a unique opportunity for us to communicate our hopes that he will implement policies that will not only restore the credibility of the US as a force for good, but also urgently address the ongoing Israeli siege and bombardment of Gaza.

Beside this war being illegal, immoral and shocking, Israel is using depleted uranium, white phosphorous, cluster bombs and possibly other illegal 'experimental' weapons that are as yet unknown to us - probably supplied by the US.

We will gather outside the main entrance to the American bases at Menwith Hill near Harrogate (HG3 2RF) - you can't miss the 'golf balls' as you come along the A59 - Harrogate to Skipton road.

We leave you with two quotes:

'FOR EVIL TO PROSPER IT TAKES GOOD MEN/WOMEN TO BE SILENT'

'IT IS NOT THE WORDS OF OUR ENEMIES THAT WE RECALL BUT THE SILENCE OF OUR FRIENDS'

Please circulate this.
And please put on you warm clothes, bring music and banners and join us on 20th January

In peace and solidarity,
