Renewables Grants monopolised by British Gas

Lana | 15.01.2009 14:01 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Energy Crisis

Shocked to find that the renewable energy 'green' grants for charities, public and non-profit sectors are being monopolised by British Gas and E.ON. Most schools and charities have not even heard about the scheme - and these companies have an interest in keeping it quiet...

The government offers a grant of 50% for charities, schools, and the public sector to install renewable energy such as wind turbines and solar panels. However, only half of the money has been given out and the government has announced it will close all applications in June 2009.

Shockingly, the projects must go through 'Framework Suppliers' to be eligible for the grants, and the government selected British Gas and E.ON to supply the grants! Why has E.ON, which is building new coal power plants, been given the contracts for supplying renewables to charities? And British Gas, that great bastion of rising gas bills, how can they be trusted to effectively install renewable technologies that will lower their profits in the long term?

British Gas actually has a vested interest in keeping people on gas and grid electricity, which is presumably why they have not even developed a website to promote the grant scheme! They have not publicised the scheme at all, so most schools do not know about it. The Low Carbon Buildings Phase 2 website is found here:

Apparently these contracts were issued through a 'competitive tender' i.e. British Gas paid the government for this privilege. This seems to be shocking evidence of special interests, lobbying and corruption at the highest level. If the contract had not been given to British Gas, we might have seen many more schools and hospitals with solar panels on their roofs today.

It can only be hoped that this story reaches those with the power to change it...

Renewables from burning Toxic waste

15.01.2009 14:42

I think you'll find that Britain is a bit behind on all the Euro Scams.
On the mainland there are mountains of public funds for the Corporate rip off artists to burrow into.
In Italy for example burning domestic waste and an unspecified amount of (Toxic) Industrial waste is also considered "renewable energy" the scam is mega.
The laws are complex, they are written by political lawyers, these same Lawyers also work for the big corporations the scams are endless. Renewable Energies is just a drop in the Ocean.. It's not always that easy to find good articles in English about European Issues, that also helps the Corporations they have companies in France and Germany where there is plenty of info.
