The march, which started with a rally at Marble Arch, was particularly aimed at Arab dictators who they claim collude with Israeli terrorism.

Perhaps 2-3,000 almost entirely Muslim men and women then marched down Park Lane led by men carrying posters against the occupation of Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan and an end of support for 'Arab puppet tyrants.' Behind these, men carried 3 black 'coffins', all with the message 'Killed in Gaza' on one side, and on the other one had 'Killed by Mubarak', the second 'Killed by King Abdullah' and the third, 'Killed by Assad.' Most women marched in a separate block led by female stewards in the centre of the demonstration.

Behind these was a large orange banner carrying the message 'Only Khalafah will Liberate Palestine.' The protesters called for all the current corrupt Muslim rulers to be replaced by a Khalifah (Caliph) who would send the armies from Muslim countries to defend Gaza and liberate Palestine.

The protesters made two demands 1) that the armies in the Muslim countries move to defend their brothers and sisters in Gaza immediately 2) that the treacherous Muslim rulers be removed and replaced by a who will release the armies to liberate Palestine.

The first call was to the Egyptian embassy in South Street, where the 'Killed by Mubarak' coffin was displayed in front of the doorway. The marchers then made their way to the Saudi Arabian embassy, a large house set back behind a garden in Charles St, where the 'Killed by King Abdullah' coffin was held up while there was a short address and some chanting. Finally the marchers went down Piccadilly and past Hyde Park Corner to Belgrave Square.

There police had used barriers to make a small area facing the Syrian embassy for the demonstrators, but clearly it was nothing like large enough to hold them (though doubtless several times too large for the number the police would report attended.) Police and demonstrators together moved the barriers forward to double the area, but it was still far too small for the demonstrtors to pray as they had intended. After some speeches, the prayers were held with everyone remaining standing and holding up their hands.

Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain has also been organising an email campaign for Muslims to send messages to the UK Ambassadors of Egypt, Syria and Iran urging these states to send their armed forces to defend the people of Gaza.

Hizb ut-Tahrir promotes the re-establishment of the Islamic Caliphate across the Muslim world with "an elected and accountable ruler, an independent judiciary, political parties, the rule of law and equal rights for minority groups." They follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad in doing so by intellectual and political activity and not by any resort to violence.

Hizb-ut Tahrir is a front organisation

15.01.2009 11:59

In this interview with Dr Mohammad Naseem, Chairman of Birmingham Central Mosque Tony Gosling asks him about all aspects of the post-9/11 and post 7/7 Muslim experience in Britain. We hear how most Muslims do not believe the official story of the London Bombings and Dr. Naseem's calls for a free and open public enquiry into the day's bomb attacks.

Dr Naseem's experience of what he sees as pseudo-Islamic organisations 'Hizb ut-Tahrir' and 'Al-Muhajiroun' is discussed at length.

This 45 minute interview was conducted after Friday Prayers on 19th September 2008. Apologies for the crash editing. Please save and share.

this is crazy

15.01.2009 12:27

Why on earth are people publishing without comment protests by fundamentalist groups like HBT, people here are going down some very dangerous paths.

no jihadis on IUK please

delegitimising protest

15.01.2009 12:59

searchlighting on hisb u tahrir et al is a favorite game of neocon spy and desinfo ops. Aim: portray social movements as antisemitic or as giving cover to terrorists, thus deligitimise protest against Israel and US, and neocon agenda in general.

In any case "front for a terrorist org" is a one of those labels... stuck on political wing of IRA sticks on zapatistas and other 3d world guerrilla.

Yet, even if hisb u tahrir are not a part of the solution - are they the problem?

Promoted?

15.01.2009 14:02

I'm surprised this is tolerated on IMC, let alone promoted.

In case people didn't know, Hizb ut-Tahrir are an Islamic fundamentalist group who advocate a worldwide Islamic state headed by an Islamic Caliph. Their positions on rights for women and homosexuals aren't hidden, and are to the right of the BNP.

Deeply worried

"part of the problem"

15.01.2009 14:49

Hizb ut-Tahrir call for a global, theocratic dictatorship, they hate gay people, they believe that women should be required to cover up when out of the house and they argue for the death penalty for "apostates".

Yes, I think they're a part of the fucking problem. Christ!

"The Muslim Umma will never submit to the Jews"

15.01.2009 14:59

Here's a charming little article by Hizb ut-Tahrir, in which they explain why "no one likes the Jews except the Jews."

part of the problem

15.01.2009 15:18

Hizb ut-Tahrir's fantasy of a world caliphate would ialso nvolve banning non-muslims from voting for their ruler.

Additionally, their views on women and gays are to the right of the BNP.

You can imagine what would happen to indymedia in such a Caliphate.

As abhorrent as the Israeli government

15.01.2009 15:26

I don't know how this report has found ti's way onto indymedia, as has been stated the group in question holds some very reactionary views. It seems to me that the left is increasingly comfortable sharing a bed with fundamentalist and reactionary groups who have no place in progressive working class politics. Whether this is some naive notion of "our enemies enemy is our friend" or rather the desire of certain groups to sell papers to people rightly pissed off with the actions of the IDF i don't know, but if you want to see the results of what happens when working class groups snuggle up to religious fundamentalists look no further to Iran in the late 1970's. It's a dangerous game that is probably indicative of the decline of the conventional left over the last 20 years.

Bruised Shins

why is this online?

15.01.2009 16:10

this needs to be taken down NOW. HBT are full on jihadists, their presense on the march is perhaps unavoidable, but their presence on indymedia is disgraceful.

Peter Marchal is a professional photojournalist who specialises in protest photo's - why he has decided to do a feature on these evil cunts is very very odd.

I am casting a very suspicious eye your way mr marshal.

what the f*ck are you playing at peter?

Marshall is a life long Hizb ut-Tahrir supporter as he has stated before......

Also a big fan of the champagne socialists Galloway, Benn, Livingston. Why don't you stick them all with your copyright up your middle class ass!
