lembit opek "orders" arrest of barbara tucker in parliament square

rikki | 15.01.2009 00:16 | SOCPA | Palestine | Repression

early this afternoon, lembit opek had barbara tucker arrested outside the gates of parliament because the noise from her campaigning for the children of gaza was interfering with him being filmed prancing about on some electric bike - she intends to sue in the high court and give the money to the children of gaza

at about 1.15 this afternoon, barbara tucker was campaigning outside the gates of parliament. she was using her megaphone to highlight the plight of the palestinian children in gaza (more than 300 dead and 1400 injured in the past few days under the zionist onslaught).

barbara was also displaying a banner with photos of the 2006 'beit hanoun' israeli massacre of civilians including 12 children, showing that recent events are simply a continuation and escalation of a pattern of war crimes.

suddenly, a mainstream film crew appeared in the courtyard behind the gates, and liberal mp lembit opek started prancing about on some electric upright bicycle machine. without any warning, two parliamentary police came and grabbed barbara, taking her inside to the parliament police office. they didn't offer her any formal caution, and didn't explain either that she was being arrested, or what she was being arrested for. there had been no attempt from either mr opek, or the police to ask barbara to stop, or to warn her she may face arrest. they were also joined by an out of town cop (from manchester) who took the opportunity (after rear-stack handcuffing barbara) to push her down to the ground against a wall. he also broke his own spectacles in the move, but the other cops removed him from the incident and there was no hint of any charges being pressed.

next she was driven to the police station and left in the back of a van for another hour or so, then detained in the cells. her solicitor arrived and was told that her detention had been 'authorised while they prepared to interview her'. of course this turned out to be bullshit and she was never interviewed. inspector tucker (most certainly no relation!!) told barbara that he could hold her for 6 hours before a detention review.

finally around 6pm, the police charged and bailed her for a 'section 5' public order offence. barbara asked what was alleged to have been said to upset mr opek, but they said they didn't have any witness statement. when pressed for some evidence or reasonable cause for a section 5 arrest, the very best they could come up with was that "mr lembit had ordered the arrest because he had said she was making it utterly impossible for him to be filmed in a public place'. we know the labour government has had a frenzied approach to law-making during its tenure (one for almost every day it's been in power!), but as of yet, i don't think there's one for "making it utterly impossible to be filmed in public".

it's ironic that on the 12th november last year, barbara tucker was arrested in parliament square for trying to intervene when police unlawfully stopped a group of film students from filming her in public ( http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/11/412849.html)

barbara is planning to sue lembit opek in the high court over the incident after describing his actions as reprehensible. she will give any financial award to help the children of gaza who are dying under the war crimes of israel while lembit opek prats about on his machine for the cameras.

ALSO NOT ON THE NEWS AT THE MOMENT!
maria gallestegui is starting her fourth day of hunger strike in parliament square for peace in gaza
 http://www.vigilforgaza.net/
she has received SOCPA 'authorisation' for anyone to join her continuous 24-hour peace vigil in the square, so please go along to support her (free of any SOCPA requirement - all peaceful people welcome)

Lembit is the LibDems

15.01.2009 10:49

In defence of Lembit. He is a widely respected mainstream politician for his couragous stance against asteroids threatening earth, despite all the mainstream media urging the asteroids on. Some people slag him off for dropping a weather-girl just to fuck a Cheeky Girl, as if that was an abuse of his celebrity as a politician, but he would have faced similar criticism for dropping the Cheeky Girl for the weather-girl. So he might be a complete dick exploiting his power in place of viagra and that abuse may have become habitual.

But at the end of the day, who wants mass-extinction from a meteor? That is one cause we can all vote for - think of the children! What a brave stance he has taken. Opposing mass extinction and fucking a pop-star, those are very brave stances for any politician to risk their career on in this current climate.

The LibDems sacked a decent man for drinking too much, sacked another man for having too much grey hair, but who the fuck drove Charles to drink and Menzies to age so?
Everyone loved Alan Partridge. Everyone loved David Icke. Isn't it great they still are represented in parliament by Lembit?

nyaghhh

In my view, embit is a complete idiot, shown by his silly engagement of a cheeky girl, did he really think she found him attractive? If so he must have even less intelligence than I thought. He is also a prolific voice for those animal abusers, the Countryside Alliance,, (though tries to hide it under the guise of 'the middle way', which we all know is just another way to promote hunting). In my book he has no creibility and is just a silly, unattractive, little man. Now he prevent democractic protest. He is a disgrace to his party

Here we go again

Yet again Barbara is arrested. Even the liberals are loosing faith in your protest. Is it not time to take the protest elsewhere?? The war on Gaza in terrible, but what would Barbara like the UK government do?? Go to war to stop it??? (No I did not think so). All they can do is put pressure on both sides which they do.

Barbara uses the umbrella as a "peace protester" to assault police and clog up the legal system, using tax payers money to pay for it.

He's a total prick whose only name to fame is fucking a Cheeky girl, and she only said yes to get residency in the UK.

I wonder if her twin sister is available?

Take the prick to the cleaners. After all a Cheeky Girl did!

He's nothing. No, he's less than nothing.

How that revolting Lembit worm ever got to a position of sort-of power is beyond me. Whereas Barbara - now that's someone worth knowing.

MrOpik is a zionist and a member of liberal friends of israel, so now you cn see his very real concerns about being filmed near anything that might upset his rabbi!

i don't normally bother answering the trolls, but just for information i'd like to point out the facts that barbara has never ever been convicted of assaulting any police officer in the course of their duty, and that she long ago refused legal aid because she didn't think tax-payer's money should be wasted on the ridiculous number of arbitrary and malicious false arrests and charges that were (and continue to be) made to try and stop her peacefully campaigning to stop the slaughter of children in iraq, afghanistan, and now palestine.

i don't think she'd want the uk to go to war over israel's actions, but how about sanctions, arms sales bans, and public censure for a start?

Yes, if peaceful protests do not work then it is time for war with Israel. If our governments will not do this then we should form an international brigade.

Any acts of resistance, including risky violent acts, must now be considered just.

That is a very principled course of action, well done... I wouldn't blame anyone short of cash for requesting legal aid of course.

Do you really believe that that would work??? That would make Barbara happy??? No. I am pleased to see that tax payers money is not being used to clog up a 1 sided cause. I hope the same apples to Brian Haw. ??
