'Much better' from whose perspective? A lot of great art has been called pornographic. Is Picassos Guernica pornagraphic in your opinion or does the pornography lie in the violence that is represented ? A cartoon is to a painting what a poem is to a novel, distilled and tight. This Latuff cartoon is a reflective ditypch mirroring the two realities in Israel/Palestine. It isn't subtle or neutral but it is a great cartoon. I'll repost one of mine to show you how much more intelligent Latuff is than me in covering the same territory, and if post a cartoon you have drawn that is better than Latuff's then I will prostrate myself before you. Otherwise gunfighter, don't shoot at people who can outdraw you!
Naji al Ali was a great cartoonist too with a completely different style to Latuff, but that doesn't mean Latuff is unintelligent. Al Ali was qualified to slag Latuff but we are not unless we prove themselves in their league. It is like saying Charlie Chaplin was better than Bill Hicks, you don't demean Latuff by rightly praising al Ali.
I hadn't read that wikipedia article though so I'm grateful since I didn't read this:
"British police investigating the killing arrested a 28-year-old Jerusalem-born Jordanian researcher at Hull University, Isma'il Hassan Sawan, and found a cache of weapons in his apartment that they said were intended for terrorist attacks around Europe; he was only charged with possession of weapons and explosives. Police said Sawan was a member of the PLO, though that organisation denied any involvement.
Under interrogation, Sawan claimed that he worked for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, which he said was aware of the plot to kill the cartoonist. By refusing to pass on the relevant information to their British counterparts, Mossad earned the displeasure of Britain, which retaliated by expelling two Israeli diplomats from London. A furious Margaret Thatcher, then prime minister, closed Mossad’s London base in Palace Green, Kensington."
