Breaking news: SOAS occupation (ongoing)

A | 13.01.2009 22:32 | University Occupations for Gaza

SOAS University of London - occupation by students in support of Gaza

Brunei Gallery (photographic celebration of colonialism) occupied by students at 6pm tonight

Students are occupying this space to raise awareness on a number of issues...

*Solidarity with Gaza - The SOAS director refused to issue condemnation of attacks on Gaza.

*End the racist MoD exhibition currently on display in the Brunei Gallery which ignores the reality of the ethnic minority experience within the British army.

*Create a practical example of student self-organisation to pose a direct challenge to the marketisation of universities - Brunei Gallery is currently being subcontracted out by Sodexo to MoD for an exhibition.

*Students are encouraging others to join them at SOAS and to engage in similar demonstrations at other universities.

*SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF GAZA

*SOLIDARITY WITH THE STUDENTS OF GREECE, ITALY, FRANCE, GERMANY, AND ALL OTHERS FACING THE PRIVATISATION OF THEIR INSTITUTIONS

start school strikes and occupy colleges! ´tis the only way to match Saturday. What else can u do? Just another demo with 100.000 won´t do. Things need widening.

Stay there as long as possible and call an open meeting for the whole movement next weekend. There are many thousands that will/can support you if you are serious.
