ARTPORT | 12.01.2009 17:27 | Climate Chaos | Culture | Ecology
ARTPORT is working in collaboration with the Climate Rush for a Dinner at Domestic Departures, Heathrow, at 7pm on the 12th January 2009
A project set up to harness the power of art and imagination to help stabilise the climate.
We are looking to find individuals and artists who are passionate about producing ideas and actions focused on and directed at treating the enormous challenges of climate change.

ARTPORT INVITES SUBMISSIONS FOR EXHIBITION AT HEATHROW AIRPORT. WE WANT YOU TO HELP US REDEFINE THE SPACE.
CLIMATE RUSH 12TH JAN 2009
By opening a mass network of artists and creative people we hope to explore the role that artists can play in understanding, interpreting, communicating and investigating the subject.
We hope to create strong collaborations that, through their work, will facilitate debate, and find new ways of increasing the level of engagement.
Together we want to create a significant contribution to encouraging social change and challenging society’s thought and behaviour. We want to combat and raise awareness of the current and future effects of climate change.
In this state of climatic emergency we want not only to encourage thought but also to provoke response and action.
Throughout every major city in the world, a movement is taking place where artists and creative people are making a stand and exploring new ways to raise awareness and counteract climate change. Artport, in collaboration with brave organizations such as Plane Stupid, Tipping point and Climate Rush, offers an opportunity for your work to make a significant and positive change, attracting mass media coverage.
We look for work that is effective, engaging, and will create dialogue and debate.
This is an open brief asking all artists:
‘ If you had a space to help stop climate change how would you use it?
The aim of your project is to create ideas that peacefully bring people together to fight climate change. You should create work that encourages discussion about what is happening with the construction of the third runway and the unsustainable use of short-haul, national flights.
We are looking for –
PERFORMANCES
THEATRE
SONG
LIVE ART
INSTALLATIONS
ANY OTHER ART FORM USED AS A VEHICLE FOR THE EXPRESSION OF THE BRIEF
These pieces should be ready for exhibition at Domestic Departures, Terminal 1, Heathrow Airport at 7pm sharp on the 12th January to coincide with the dinner.
Bear in mind the nature of the space and the fact that there will be minimal set-up time so work must be easily installed (and removed?)
IF TROUBLED BY THE POLICE, ARTPORT STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT YOU COMPLY WITH THEIR DEMANDS.
If we think better, we act better, therefore creating work that can change the world.
