Gaza Demo 10Jan One or Two Arrests

Dave | 10.01.2009 16:52

I was in the thick of it obstructing the car with the Isreali flag, just want a few more reports and opinions, although some I imagine will be unwelcome.

I didn't see both arrests fully, the cops quoted 'Section 3 of the Criminal Act' at me, sounded like bollocks but what can you do in that situation.

Just wanted a fuller picture of what was going on that's all. What did you see/do?

Why didn't the march stop at M&S?

What I saw

11.01.2009 11:46

A car pulled up next to the demo outside the art gallery, the young lads inside started shouting abuse at people listening to the speeches regarding the killing of civilians in Gaza, they waved n Isralei flag out of the window and were laughing. A few of those closest to the car ran over, one person grabbed the flag and pulled it out of the car, one or two people also kicked at the car before it pulled away and drove off, the Police rather than arresting the drivers for incitement and public order offenses ran into the small group of demonstrators who were near the incident dragging and pushing them away, in the ensuing shoving two people were arrested and dragged off in to a 'Bridewell Taxi', that's all I saw.

I can spell Israel, honestly.

Nice and concise!

The police were very inexperienced, I was told that 'sarcasm is not acceptable in this situation' and that I could be arrested under 'Section 3 of The Criminal Act', and pushed before being given a chance to move.

I call for more solidarity (ironic huh?) from other people on the march and the organisers (LCAW) to not blame individual protesters for 'disreputable behaviour' but to denounce the police for false and initimidatory arrests and to complain about the policing of the incident.
